They clocked Mars\u2019 slower speed of sound at 540 mph, compared to 760 mph on our home planet. This discrepancy was attributed to the fact that on Mars the atmosphere is \u201centirely different,\u201d thereby affecting the way we perceive sound.<\/p>\n<p>And while we\u2019re not actually able to test our voices on Mars itself \u2014 at least not until at least 2026, anyway \u2014 armchair astronauts are also invited to use the Sounds of Mars tool to test how other<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mars.nasa.gov\/mars2020\/participate\/sounds\/?playlist=earth&amp;item=birds&amp;type=earth\"> Earthly noises would sound<\/a> on the fourth rock from the sun.
