Bruno'&#8221;<\/h1>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Can we talk about how the Oscars dissed \u201cBruno\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s right, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=s1j5oIMTeL4\">\u201cWe Don\u2019t Talk About Bruno\u201d<\/a> \u2014 that \u201cEncanto\u201d earworm that topped the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks, becoming only the second No. 1 song ever from a Disney animated film (after <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jFe1wtuZNYU\">\u201cA Whole New World\u201d<\/a> from \u201cAladdin\u201d in 1993) \u2014 somehow wasn\u2019t even nominated for Best Original Song at the 2022 Academy Awards.<\/p>\n<p>And to make matters even stranger, another song from \u201cEncanto\u201d \u2014 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jFe1wtuZNYU\">\u201cDos Oruguitas,\u201d<\/a> performed by Sebasti\u00e1n Yatra \u2014 was nominated in the category that also includes Billie Eilish\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ivmV0pwKBRU\">\u201cNo Time to Die\u201d<\/a> (from James Bond hit film \u201cNo Time to Die\u201d), Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s \u201cBe Alive\u201d (from \u201cKing Richard\u201d), Reba McEntire\u2019s \u201cSomehow You Do\u201d (from \u201cFour Good Days\u201d) and Van Morrison\u2019s \u201cDown to Joy\u201d (from \u201cBelfast\u201d).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" consideration.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Walt Disney Co.\/Courtesy Evere<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But it\u2019s not the Oscars\u2019 fault for overlooking \u201cBruno.\u201d The song \u2014 which, like \u201cDos Oruguitas,\u201d was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda \u2014 was not submitted for nomination by Disney. Part of that is because Oscar submissions needed to be made by Nov. 1, before \u201cBruno\u201d became a smash hit this year \u2014 and before \u201cEncanto\u201d was even released.<\/p>\n<p>Disney and Miranda settled on \u201cDos Oruguitas\u201d as the submission from \u201cEncanto\u201d because the song is more emotional and is used during a key moment in the film. It\u2019s the foundational story, but I\u2019m not going to say it wasn\u2019t hard [to choose].\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n<p><strong>Follow the 2022 Oscars with our up-to-the-minute coverage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n<p>Still, \u201cWe Don\u2019t Have to Talk About Bruno\u201d got to have its Oscar moment with a performance by \u201cEncanto\u201d cast members Adassa, Stephanie Beatriz, Mauro Castillo, Carolina Gaitan and Diane Guerrero, as well as Becky G and Luis Fonsi. They joined performances of nominated songs by Beyonc\u00e9, Eilish and her brother Finneas, McEntire and Yatra.
