It was a difficult and heartbreaking moment and many are processing the pain. Would you pray for our community today? 1\/2<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Terry Crist (@terrycrist) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/terrycrist\/status\/1508186166226350082?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 27, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The Crists \u2014 both <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hillsong.com\/contributors\/contributor\/terry-judith-crist\/\">fifth generation pastors<\/a> \u2014 started their congregation \u201cin our living room 22 years ago\u201d before becoming a Hillsong Network Church and then \u201cHillsong Family,\u201d more formally merging them with the Australian-born Pentecostal institution.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, problems began for the Phoenix branch in 2017, when a \u201cglobal restructuring\u201d left the Crists with \u201cconcerns,\u201d Terry said in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xHRNvwxF5lY\">an emotional sermon<\/a> published to Hillsong Phoenix\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a> channel this Sunday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the course of the global restructuring our governance was reassigned along with our corporation, along with our church,\u201d said Crist, going on to detail how the restructuring removed not only his decision-making power over his congregation but also accountability for the church.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was told this past week it is \u2018all or nothing\u2019 \u2014 we either had to allow the global board to govern our church and to own our properties or we had to leave. So with great sadness, I chose to leave,\u201d he went on. <\/p>\n<p>While the Crists are \u201cdeeply saddened by recent revelations, and we feel great compassion for those who have been victimized by anyone in any position of leadership,\u201d Terry noted in his email, their departure is \u201cnot because of the documentary that has been released this week, however horrible that may be \u2014 I haven\u2019t seen it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHillsong: A Megachurch Exposed\u201d examined several allegations against Houston.<\/p>\n<p>Houston, 68, had already announced his decision to \u201cstep aside completely\u201d from leadership of the multinational church he and wife Bobbie founded in 1983 this January, citing his need to focus on an ongoing court case accusing Houston of hiding his late father\u2019s child sexual abuse. Then, this month, he once again made a show of stepping away from power following the revelation of multiple misconduct allegations.<\/p>\n<p>The Crists\u2019 decision to leave Hillsong was exclusively due to the fact that the global board refused to return their church\u2019s \u201cgovernances back [to] the local level.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hillsong did not respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
