But for those in the deaf community, it had a silencing effect that they find to be heartbreaking and anger-inducing.<\/p>\n<p>The smack h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened on the same night that \u201cCODA\u201d \u2014\u00a0about the hearing child of two deaf parents as she struggles to navigate helping out with her family business and pursuing her own musical dreams \u2014 made waves, snagging Best Picture and two other Academy Awards. <\/p>\n<p>It was a seismic moment for the deaf community, as the movie also featured hearing-impaired actors including Troy Kotsur, who won Best Supporting Actor. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a great thing with this movie, and Will Smith\u2019s slap superseded it,\u201d said Bob Hiltermann, a deaf actor who\u2019s appeared in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> such as \u201cChildren of a Lesser God\u201d and TV shows including \u201cHawaii Five-O.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was looking at the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> for information about \u2018CODA\u2019 and all I saw everywhere was the slap,\u201d he said. \u201cWill Smith apologized to the Academy but he should have apologized to \u2018CODA\u2019 for drawing away so much attention. And she refuses to let Smith\u2019s behavior spoil the moment. \u201cTears came out of my eyes when Troy won,\u201d she told The Post. <\/p>\n<p>But the slap \u201ctook attention away from where it should have been,\u201d Delora said. \u201cI was disappointed \u2026 We have been working so hard to have fair representation in the movie business. Right now I am hoping for the world to see the skills of deaf individuals. I hope this win will change people so that they see deafness differently.
