means reading terms before hearing them pronounced aloud. The first time you read a word will stick in your head, but it\u2019s not always correct. You\u2019re probably saying some terms wrong.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a phenomenon similar to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/False_memory\">Mandala Effect<\/a>. You\u2019ve subconsciously convinced yourself that something is true, and you may never even consider the possibility that you\u2019re wrong. That is, until the first time you hear someone say it. Despite that popularity, \u201cHuawei\u201d is a very commonly mispronounced brand name.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese company <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=B-O4zfH6pEc\">went out on the streets of New York City<\/a> to hear how people said its name. As expected, people almost always started it with an \u201cH\u201d sound. It\u2019s similar to running a program in Windows as an administrator.<\/p>\n<p>It is very commonly pronounced \u201csue-doe.\u201d In fact, before researching this piece I never even considered there could be a different pronunciation. The \u201cX\u201d in Mac OS X is not actually the letter x, it is the roman numeral for 10. Mac OS X was the tenth release of the Mac operating system.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, it is pronounced \u201cTen,\u201d not \u201cEx.\u201d Will this change how you say it? There are two ways that people pronounce this term, and the way you choose can create a lot of drama.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/techland.time.com\/2013\/05\/22\/how-do-you-pronounce-gif\/\">Steve Wilhite<\/a>, the creator of the GIF format, was on record as saying it\u2019s pronounced \u201cjif.\u201d He once said \u201cchoosy developers choose JIF,\u201d a play on the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/35938\/jif-wants-you-to-pronounce-gif-correctly-and-to-buy-peanut-butter\/\">peanut butter slogan<\/a>. That\u2019s a compelling argument, but language often doesn\u2019t follow the rules we try to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ly to it.<\/p>\n<p>Proponents of the hard g pronunciation point to what GIF stands for: \u201cGraphics Interchange Format.\u201d The word \u201cgraphics\u201d is pronounced with a hard g, so GIF should be pronounced with a hard g. The problem with that is there are plenty of acronyms that don\u2019t follow this rule.<\/p>\n<p>I think it can be boiled down to one simple factor. In this section, I\u2019ve been spelling it with a \u201cj\u201d to show how it\u2019s said with a soft g.
