If the iPhone is unlocked, you can use it with any cellular carrier. They might not do it, depending on the status of your account with them. If it says \u201cOn,\u201d then Activation Lock is enabled. If you\u2019re planning to sell or give away your iPhone, you\u2019ll also need to sign out of iCloud and perform a factory reset before handing the device over.<\/p>\n<p>After the factory reset completes, you\u2019ll know that Activation Lock is truly disabled if you see the \u201cHello\u201d screen inviting you to set up your iPhone. If you\u2019re buying a used iPhone and it\u2019s been factory-reset, make sure it shows you the standard \u201cHello\u201d setup screen after powering it on!<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, if the iPhone asks for an Apple ID and password to proceed with setup, it\u2019s still locked to the original owner. The owner can sign in and turn off \u201cFind My iPhone\u201d or log in to their Apple ID through the Apple website and remove the iPhone from their list of devices remotely.
