\n Macaroni and cheese is evolving.<\/p>\n

This week brought two big announcements for the comfort food: a fusion concept with Cheetos, and Kraft\u2019s attempt at rebranding the American staple as a breakfast-app<\/a>ropriate dish.<\/p>\n

The new Cheetos Mac \u2018N Cheese line was quietly rolled out this month and first spotted by snack influencers at Walmart. \u201cFound these today at @walmart and I think they were less than $1,\u201d posted one junk food fan on Instagram with two of the product\u2019s three flavors \u2014 Bold & Cheesy, Flamin\u2019 Hot and Cheesy Jalape\u00f1o. \u201cThese are instant Mac and cheese boxes and they sound delicious!\u201d<\/p>\n

Another user recommended fans \u201ccrumble different Cheetos product over\u201d their Cheetos Mac \u2018N Cheese.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeginning August 8, fans can pick up Cheetos Mac \u2018n Cheese in both single box and cup format at Walmart stores nationally or online for a suggested retail price of 98 cents,\u201d parent brand PepsiCo wrote in a press release Wednesday. The product initially will only be available in the US at Walmart, but will roll out to other retailers in 2021.<\/p>\n

Also this week, Kraft Heinz announced it is rebranding its Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinner as a breakfast meal, removing \u201cDinner\u201d from the iconic blue box for the first time in the product\u2019s history. The move, the company said, was inspired by the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cFifty-six percent of parents have served their kids Mac & Cheese for breakfast more often during COVID-19 related state lockdowns than previous months,\u201d Kraft wrote in a press release. \u201cSo for the first time, Kraft is replacing \u2018dinner\u2019 with \u2018breakfast\u2019 on their iconic blue box of macaroni & cheese because it\u2019s acceptable to enjoy deliciously cheesy Kraft Mac & Cheese for breakfast \u2014 or any time of day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Breakfast has proved a rare bright spot for advertisers amid a general<\/a> slump.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Americans settling in and establishing new routines working from home, people will be consuming much more breakfast at their kitchen table,\u201d Todd Krizelman, CEO of Media<\/a>Radar, which tracks the industry, told The Post in April. \u201cIn fact, we predict there will be a race to capture all the new demand and lock in new customers.\u201d<\/p>\n
