\n New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may be denied a speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention this month, according to a report.<\/p>\n

Although the 30-year-old Democratic social<\/a>ist is one of the most recognizable new leaders in the party, centrists are opposed to giving her time to speak.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think [Vermont Sen.] Bernie [Sanders] and [Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth] Warren will speak, and they\u2019ll represent the progressive wing of the party very ably,\u201d former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell told Politico.<\/p>\n

Rendell, a longtime friend of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, said it would be unfair to highlight Ocasio-Cortez, who took office last year after a shocking primary win.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you picked AOC, why wouldn\u2019t you pick Katie Porter or why wouldn\u2019t you pick Madeleine Dean or Mary Gay Scanlon?\u201d Rendell said, referring to other recently elected congresswomen.<\/p>\n

A source close to Democratic convention planning told The Post that more information about the speakers list will be released next week.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is currently confirmed are the Obamas will be involved, the VP nominee Wednesday, Biden on Thursday and a tribute to John Lewis,\u201d the person said.<\/p>\n

Spokespeople for Ocasio-Cortez, who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

Although AOC is an inspirational figure for younger left-wing voters, she\u2019s also a frequent point of focus for President Trump, who mocks her as an ill-informed radical.<\/p>\n

Trump on Thursday slammed Ocasio-Cortez as \u201ca real beauty\u201d who \u201cknows nothing about the economy.\u201d He singled out policies in her Green New Deal proposal.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe knows as much about the environment \u2014 do we have any young children here? \u2014 as that young child over there. I think he knows more,\u201d Trump said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
