It\u2019s nice that people get to keep it in their homes,\u201d  said his daughter Irene Hodges.<\/p>\n<p>Irene, who was 21 when her father died in 1972, said he would have found the nod amusing. \u201cHe\u2019d probably laugh; he\u2019d find humor in it, for sure,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The idea for the statue came about when the first basemen\u2019s long-awaited entry into Cooperstown was announced. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we saw that \u2026 it was sort of a no-brainer for us,\u201d said Tara Napoli, the Mets director of venue services and promotions.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/gil-hodges-bobblehead.jpg?w=768\" alt=\"Gil Hodges bobblehead\" class=\"wp-image-21754731\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/gil-hodges-bobblehead.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1152 1152w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/gil-hodges-bobblehead.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=768 768w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/gil-hodges-bobblehead.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=384 384w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/gil-hodges-bobblehead.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\"\/><figcaption>Hodges\u2019 daughter Irene called the collectible a \u201cbeautiful remembrance.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She made sure that Irene got to see a rendering of her dad\u2019s statue before the process was complete. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI loved it,\u201d said Irene, who has lived in Brooklyn \u2014 where her dad debuted for the Dodgers in 1943 \u2014 for her entire life.. \u201cOf course, I saw it on the screen, but it looks tremendous. They worked really hard to do a good job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An Indiana native, Gil played 16 years for the Dodgers in Brooklyn and L.A., before becoming an original Met in 1962 and retiring the next season. His career was interrupted when he was drafted and fought in World War II, but he still finished with 370 home runs. No one ever thought they would ever win. But he was also thrilled for New York. And she already knows where hers will go\u00a0\u2014 on her mother Joan Lombardi Hodges\u2019 dresser.\u00a0\u201cShe will be very happy to keep it close to her,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Mets 2022 bobblehead roster includes Pete Alonso, which will be released on April 30; and Francisco Lindor, coming out on May 14.
