The pair also represent the only GOP members on the nine-person House select committee probing the Capitol riot.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called the proceedings a \u201cpolitical show trial\u201d and said Democrats were \u201ccriminalizing dissent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. They could face $100,000 and up to a year in prison if prosecuted and convicted by the feds.<\/p>\n<p>Former White House\u00a0strategist Steve Bannon\u00a0and former\u00a0chief of staff Mark Meadows\u00a0were also found in contempt after ignoring the panel\u2019s subpoenas.<\/p>\n<p>Bannon was indicted, but federal prosecutors had not yet brought charges against Meadows, to the frustration of House investigators.<\/p>\n<p>More than 800 other witnesses had been interviewed by the panel, including Trump\u2019s daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner.<\/p>\n<p>The committee alleged last week in a court filing that Trump and his cohorts criminally conspired to \u201cdefraud the United States\u201d by provoking a violent mob of supporters to disrupt the certification of his 2020 election loss.<\/p>\n<p><em>With AP wires<\/em>\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
