They were formerly married, so the timing was interesting to say the least. And it came as no surprise that her masterpiece <em>The Hurt Locker<\/em> beat out Cameron&#8217;s <em>Avatar<\/em>. Just the following year, in 2010, she made <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/content.time.com\/time\/specials\/packages\/completelist\/0,29569,1984685,00.html\">Time<\/a>&#8216;s 100 list of most influential people. Her directorial debut dates back to 1981 on the film <em>The Loveless<\/em> starring Willem Dafoe, and her work piled on from there. Her skills only sharpened with age, as her finest works came in recent years.<br \/>\n Bigelow is set to make her return to direction with her newly announced Netflix-exclusive project. According to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/kathryn-bigelow-david-koepp-netflix-thriller-aurora-1235123018\/\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, Bigelow has agreed to helm a feature based on David Koepp\u2019s upcoming novel <em>Aurora. <\/em>This will be Bigelow\u2019s first project as a director since her last release, <em>Detroit<\/em>, from 2017. This neo-Western horror film stars some of the leads from Bigelow&#8217;s ex-husband&#8217;s masterpiece, <em>Aliens<\/em>: Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, and Jenette Goldstein. The film depicts events at the Algiers Motel during the race riots of July 1967. <em>Detroit<\/em> brings to light a horrific crime that took place during one of America&#8217;s darkest periods. The film was rightfully nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, but it probably came closest to winning Best Actress. Playing a strong-willed and utterly committed FBI agent, Chastain is a vital ingredient of this film about the pursuit of Osama Bin Laden after 9\/11.<br \/>\n &#8220;What was important to me was that this was a very strong character at the center of this hunt and that the movie doesn\u2019t engage necessarily in gender politics about that character,&#8221; <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/collider.com\/kathryn-bigelow-jessica-chastain-zero-dark-thirty-interview\/\">Bigelow told Collider<\/a> regarding Chastain&#8217;s role. &#8220;She is not defined by a man. It&#8217;s an extremely important film in the world of cinema in many ways, as Bigelow made history by becoming the first woman to ever win the Best Director Oscar. <em>Avatar<\/em> may have spawned multiple sequels (yet to be released, mind you), but <em>The Hurt Locker<\/em> took the top trophies that night back in 2009. After all the countless war films over the years, it might seem impossible for the 21st Century to churn out a unique take on the genre.
