It might not be a democracy at all,\u201d Wallace read. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe like to call those who lived during World War II the Greatest Generation, but that allows us to ignore the fact that many of this generation fought for democracy abroad, while brutally suppressing democracy for millions of American citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former \u201cFox <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> Sunday\u201d host then turned to Hannah-Jones and asked: \u201cAgain, I am in no way minimizing our terrible racial legacy. But in some of these things, aren\u2019t you overstating?\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CNN-06.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Wallace, the former Fox News Sunday moderator, took issue with Wallace's contention that the generation that fought in World War Two &quot;brutally suppressed&quot; black people.\" class=\"wp-image-21817440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CNN-06.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CNN-06.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CNN-06.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Wallace, the former \u201cFox News Sunday\u201d moderator, took issue with Wallace\u2019s contention that the generation that fought in World War II \u201cbrutally suppressed\u201d black people.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">CNN+<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Hannah-Jones disagreed: \u201cIf you have half of the country \u2014 where it\u2019s in some states majorities, in many other states pluralities, 25% of the population, 40% of the population, cannot vote, have their vote violently suppressed, where they\u2019re a single one-party, one-race rule in a region where about 30% of the population is black \u2026 would you consider that democracy?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>When Wallace said youngsters from \u201cethnic neighborhoods in Brooklyn and South Philly\u201d who went to \u201cstorm the beaches of Normandy\u201d were not \u201cbrutally suppressing blacks,\u201d Hannah-Jones replied: \u201cWell, they were.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=haiDUg9ssio\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=haiDUg9ssio<\/a><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cNo, they weren\u2019t.
