spring on whether to conduct a civil rights audit of its operations \u2013 a vote that will occur after the feds rejected the company\u2019s effort to quash the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The fast-food giant asked the SEC in January to leave the proposal out of its annual proxy, arguing the proposed audit would interfere with its legal defense against lawsuits raised black franchisees and employees who allege racial discrimination and unfair treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC shot down McDonald\u2019s request \u2013 meaning a potential civil rights audit will be on the ballot at the company\u2019s upcoming shareholders meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are unable to concur in your view that the company may exclude the proposal,\u201d the SEC said in an April 5 letter to McDonald\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-04-06\/mcdonald-s-investors-to-vote-on-race-audit-this-year-sec-says?srnd=premium\">obtained by Bloomberg<\/a>. \u201cIn our view, the proposal transcends ordinary business matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The push for McDonald\u2019s to conduct an independent audit of its policies began last November, when advisory firm SOC Investment urged the company to enact a third-party review to fill in alleged gaps in its diversity disclosures.<\/p>\n<p>The firm previously argued that McDonald\u2019s was attempting to \u201cskirt accountability\u201d by preventing a vote on the measure.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" commitments to civil rights,\u201d SOC Investment executive director Dieter Waizenegger said in a statement to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis audit would encompass a review of policies on racial justice and sexual harassment \u2014 issues that are front-and-center for workers, consumers,<\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s did not im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely return a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s has faced multiple lawsuits from black franchisees who have accused the company of racial discrimination. Last December, the company settled a lawsuit with one franchisee who argued McDonald\u2019s steered him toward less-profitable restaurant locations.<\/p>\n<p>Another lawsuit on behalf of 77 black former franchisees is still pending.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s has taken steps to address concerns about its commitment to equality, pledging that at least 35% of its leadership roles will be filled by candidates from historically underrepresented groups by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The company also <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/business\/ct-biz-mcdonalds-initiative-minority-franchisees-20211208-sfscth25rbatjk2ymlebv3pmti-story.html\">pledged $250 million over five years<\/a> to increase the number of its minority-owned franchise locations around the US, the Chicago Tribune reported.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s is the latest in a growing number of companies to face shareholder pressure over civil rights issues. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le shareholders voted to approve a similar third-party audit of the iPhone maker\u2019s operations during the company\u2019s shareholder meeting in March.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
