In 2020, the Konvict Music mogul said he\u2019s even secured $4 billion dollars from investors to<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/korihale\/2020\/08\/18\/akon-is-ready-to-build-a-6-billion-cryptocurrency-city\/?sh=68f7b5091fba\">\u00a0begin construction<\/a> on a \u201cfuturistic cryptocurrency <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a>d city\u201d in Senegal. The city would have parks, hotels, a stadium and would rely entirely on Akon\u2019s digital currency \u201cAkoin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Devyne Stephens, Akon\u2019s ex-business partner who was previously a music executive for Jay-Z, Destiny\u2019s Child and others, said in a March court filing that the \u201cSmack That\u201d singer is running a Ponzi scheme with this futuristic city and demanded a judge freeze his New York City assets.<\/p>\n<p>Via <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/04\/05\/akon-says-ex-business-partner-is-attempting-to-freeze-his-assets-out-of-spite\/\"><em>Page Six,<\/em><\/a> Akon\u2019s lawyers bit back at Stephens in court documents filed to the Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday (April 4).\u00a0 The documents accused the former business partner of trying to \u201cdamage Akon\u2019s reputation out of spite while he is engaged in some of the most consequential and ambitious projects of his entrepreneurial career.\u201d Akon\u2019s lawyers added the lawsuit was \u201ccharacter assassination,\u201d and wrote that the suit has\u00a0\u201cinflicted unwarranted damage on Akon.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"p-message_pane_message__message_label c-message_kit__labels c-message_kit__labels--light\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__gutter\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__gutter__right\" role=\"presentation\" data-qa=\"message_content\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__blocks c-message_kit__blocks--rich_text\">\n<div class=\"c-message__message_blocks c-message__message_blocks--rich_text\" data-qa=\"message-text\">\n<div class=\"p-block_kit_renderer\" data-qa=\"block-kit-renderer\">\n<div class=\"p-block_kit_renderer__block_wrapper p-block_kit_renderer__block_wrapper--first\">\n<div class=\"p-rich_text_block\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div class=\"p-rich_text_section\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Stephens had also previously accused the Senegalese songwriter\u00a0of owing him $4 million in unpaid royalties in a separate 2018 lawsuit. He had previously called Akon a \u201cdishonorable spendthrift that shirks his responsibilities and does not keep promises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 suit came after Akon had reportedly agreed to pay Stephens $3.25 million over the course of four years, but then allegedly backed out of paying the last $750,000 installment.
