Strassel at The Wall Street Journal<\/a>. Topping the list? Republicans \u201cChuck Grassley and Ron Johnson.\u201d Their probe of Hunter spooked Dems, who called it \u201ca vehicle for \u2018laundering\u2019 a foreign influence campaign.\u201d Now that the story is authenticated, Grassley wants Dems to say \u201cwhat parts . . . were Russian disinformation,\u201d while Johnson noted \u201cthe press is . . . continuing to ignore\u201d Joe Biden\u2019s own possible involvement. Hunter\u2019s shenanigans raise \u201cquestions about counterintelligence and extortion\u201d and make us ask if the president really had \u201cno knowledge of his son\u2019s doings.\u201d And while Johnson and Grassley \u201care getting satisfaction . . . they\u2019d no doubt take that apology, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Urban beat: Residents on Their Own vs. Crime<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPhiladelphia\u2019s progressive district attorney Larry Krasner has let violence and mayhem run unchecked in the City of Brotherly Love,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/philadelphia-and-st-louis-citizens-defend-themselves--with-force\">declares Thomas Hogan at City Journal<\/a>. The city set \u201ca new annual record for homicides, with 562 killings in 2021,\u201d while Krasner continues to let \u201ccriminals walk\u201d free and even expands the list of crimes he won\u2019t prosecute to include firearms offenses \u2014 \u201cin the belief that such prosecutions are unjust and racially discriminatory.\u201d As a result, Philly residents are now forced to defend themselves to fight crime. \u201cIn an ordered society, law enforcement has a monopoly on the use of force, and citizens turn to the criminal-justice system for protection.\u201d But not in Krasner\u2019s world, which is why the city\u2019s population slipped by almost 25,000 residents last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fiscal expert: State Budget\u2019s Alarming Flaws<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In putting together a New York state budget for the current fiscal year, Albany \u201cdoes not <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear to have sufficiently balanced priorities between relief and recovery now and protecting future New Yorkers from the next emergency or recession,\u201d<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cbcny.org\/research\/statement-new-york-state-fiscal-year-2023-budget-agreement\"> worries Andrew Rein at the Citizens Budget Commission<\/a>. For example, the 15% of operating funds that were set aside for reserves amounts to less than half the $40 billion-plus over three years that past recessions have cost the state. Meanwhile, \u201cthe budget reportedly adds billions of dollars of recurring spending with apparently no commensurate actions to restrain spending growth in other areas.\u201d That could lead to \u201csignificant future fiscal stress, which is especially concerning given the rocky recovery, global instability and inflationary pressures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Libertarian: Musk\u2019s No Free-Speech Guarantee<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk bought the largest stake in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> perhaps to champion free speech there, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2022\/04\/06\/elon-musks-twitter-stake-is-promising-but-not-a-permanent-fix-for-free-speech\/\">notes J.D. Tuccille at Reason<\/a>. Yet \u201cany movement based around one person is . . . only as good as that person\u201d \u2014 and Musk, \u201calready at war\u201d with the SEC, stands accused of \u201cretaliation against critics\u201d at Tesla. So it\u2019s possible \u201cthe clout he wields at Twitter might . . . be wielded against free speech.\u201d Which is why the job of protecting \u201cfree speech can\u2019t lie in the hands of one person\u201d; it needs \u201ca culture that values protections for dissent without regard for our agreement or disagreement with other people\u2019s views.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Progressive: Team Biden\u2019s War on Charters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 3.5 million U.S. parents today choose charter schools because they believe they are a better fit for their children,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/education\/3261097-bureaucratic-gremlins-attack-charter-schools\/\">argues Will Marshall at The Hill<\/a>. Yet the Biden Department of Education has rolled out new rules \u201caimed at retarding the spread of public charter schools\u201d by requiring their organizers to partner \u201cwith local school districts to enhance their chances of winning\u201d federal funding.
