\/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Two teenage girls were stabbed \u2014 one of them fatally \u2014 during a parade celebrating the Mount Vernon High School basketball team\u2019s state championship season on Friday, police said.<\/p>\n<p>What began as a city-wide celebration turned to tragedy at around 3:55 p.m. when cops found the two stabbed teens and multiple women fighting near the end of the parade route, according to a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=398186408795388&amp;set=a.285270993420264\">statement<\/a> from the city.<\/p>\n<p>One of the girls suffered non-life threatening injuries while the other victim, a 16-year-old, was \u201cgravely injured\u201d and died as she was being rushed to Jacobi Medical Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am devastated and completely outraged,\u201d Mayor Shawyn Patterson Howard said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe began our day celebrating the greatness and success of our youth and we ended it with a young life that has been taken by senseless and inexcusable violence,\u201d Howard said. \u201cThe mental emotional and spiritual health of our community especially of our children must be the priority and we must come together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The parade <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mtvernoncsd.org\/site\/default.aspx?PageType=3&amp;DomainID=9&amp;ModuleInstanceID=2255&amp;ViewID=6446EE88-D30C-497E-9316-3F8874B3E108&amp;RenderLoc=0&amp;FlexDataID=10208&amp;PageID=11\">kicked off<\/a> around 11 a.m. with members of the Mount Vernon Knights\u2019 undefeated team snaking through the city in a police-escorted motorcade, passing by 15 other schools\u00a0city schools before ending at Mount Vernon City Hall for a ceremony where the team was honored for its 12th state title.<\/p>\n<p>            <iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"wpcom-iframe-cc1c64d1e3d760ea847db89c870a82b9\" width=\"\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/embeds.nypost.com\/protected-iframe\/cc1c64d1e3d760ea847db89c870a82b9\" scrolling=\"auto\" frameborder=\"0\" class=\"\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"fullscreen\"><br \/>\n    <\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But a fight broke out between two 10th-graders from Mount Vernon High School and two other students from the Mount Vernon STEAM Academy and the Denzel Washington School, Mount Vernon Superintendent Kenneth Hamilton wrote in a message to the school community <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-york\/mountvernonny\/fatal-stabbing-teen-mars-day-community-pride-celebration\">obtained by Patch<\/a>. It\u2019s not clear which schools the victims attended.<\/p>\n<p>The Mount Vernon School District is offering counseling services at Mount Vernon High School on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, officials said.
