It\u2019s nothing new, and it\u2019ll happen in the metaverse,\u201d said Greg Pryor, a lawyer at the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reedsmith.com\/en\/professionals\/p\/pryor-gregor\">lawfirm Reed Smith LLP<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if I say something racist or abuse someone based on their race or religion or sexuality, then you can potentially be prosecuted.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/metaverse-1-1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"UNSPECIFIED - MARCH 24: General views of the Metaverse Fashion Week on March 24, 2022 in UNSPECIFIED, Unspecified. After all, people kill each other in video <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s all the time without consequences. It would not make sense, and we have enough challenges just protecting people,\u201d Bandler said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/metaverse-4-1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Future game gamefi and entertainment digital technology. Indeed, such acts are either \u2018part of the game\u2019 or at least allowed by the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even now, very few digital harassment crimes or threats on the internet are prosecuted, according to Bandler.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery case is individualized, but a lot of threats get made and criminal enforcement isn\u2019t frequent,\u201d he said. \u201cI can\u2019t imagine threats in the metaverse will get a lot of traction with law enforcement.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/metaverse-3-1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"UNSPECIFIED - MARCH 25: General view of the Metaverse Fashion Week on March 25, 2022 in UNSPECIFIED, Unspecified. The main recourse is through the platform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the flip side, Pryor and Roberts said they can envision a future where laws are amended or new laws are created to reflect potential violence in the metaverse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCould the law give greater protection to avatars because they\u2019re like our personal persona? Could the law extend protection? Yeah, I think potentially.
