In a March 14 blog post, the Ethereum Foundation <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.ethereum.org\/2022\/03\/14\/kiln-merge-testnet\/\">described<\/a> the merge as a &#8220;culmination of six years of research and development&#8221; intended to make the network more secure and energy-efficient.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ethereum Foundation developer Marius van der Wijden confirmed on Monday that PoS testing was underway. \u201cToday will be the first mainnet shadow fork ever.
