\n SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 Tiger Woods had an afternoon of angst Friday as he battled to make the cut at the PGA Championship.<\/p>\n

Woods was 1-under par and seemingly safely inside the 1-over-par cut line as he reached the 13th tee. But he bogeyed 13 and 15 to fall to 1-over, suddenly residing on the cutline with three holes to play.<\/p>\n

Woods gave himself a slight bit of breathing room with a birdie on the short par-4 16th to get back to even par with two holes to play.<\/p>\n

He finished with a second-round 72 and is even-par for the tournament, eight shots behind leader Haotong Li.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really struggled with getting the speed of the greens today,\u2019\u2019 Woods said, referencing the 17 putts he took on the front nine. \u201cThey looked faster than what they were putting. They were firm coming into the greens, but they weren\u2019t putting as fast as they looked.<\/p>\n

Asked if he can \u201cstill win\u2019\u2019 this week, Woods said, \u201cYeah.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201c[Saturday], I\u2019m going off early and hopefully I can get it going, drive the ball like I did today, hit my irons a little bit more crisp and be a little bit more aggressive on the putts,\u2019\u2019 he said. \u201cIf I can get myself in position where like I did today off the tee, I think I can have a really good weekend.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The star-power group featuring Woods, Rory McIlroy and world No. 1 Justin Thomas fizzled, with McIlroy leading the way at 1-under, Woods at even and Thomas 1-over.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce Tiger and I got our tee shots off 18, I just gave him a look like, \u2018Phew, glad that\u2019s almost done,\u2019 \u2019\u2019 McIlroy said. \u201cIt was tough out there. We all didn\u2019t really have our best. We were grinding just to be here for the weekend. But thankfully all three of us made it to the weekend and we all have an opportunity to go out [Saturday] and post a low one and get ourselves back in the tournament.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

All four Met Arena club pros missed the cut. Rob Labritz, from GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford Hills, followed his opening-round 71 with a 76 Friday to finish 7-over.<\/p>\n

\u201cBummed to say the least,\u2019\u2019 Labritz said. \u201cBut what doesn\u2019t kill you makes stronger.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Jason Caron, from Mill River Club on Long Island, rallied to shoot 72 Friday after a 76 on Thursday, but still missed the cut at 8-over. Danny Balin, from Fresh Meadow, and Alex Beach, from Westchester Country Club, also missed the cut, with Balin finishing at 10-over after shooting 76 on Friday and Beach finishing 4-over after shooting 71.<\/p>\n

Bryson DeChambeau\u2019s superpowers with the driver faltered on Friday.<\/p>\n

The biggest hitter in the game<\/a> since he transformed his body with some 25 pounds of added muscle that\u2019s produced 20-plus added yards off the tee, sputtered to an even-par 70 and he missed 10-of-14 fairways along the way.<\/p>\n

Still, he insisted afterward: \u201cI didn\u2019t feel like I hit it that bad to be honest with you,\u2019\u2019 adding, \u201cThere were just a couple holes out there where I misjudged the wind off the tee shot, and consequently the ball went a little off the beaten path.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got to do something special this weekend,\u2019\u2019 he went on. \u201cI think I can. I think I\u2019ve got the firepower to do that. I\u2019ve just got to hit some fairways.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Rickie Fowler cost himself the weekend with a bizarre whiffed putt on the par-4 sixth hole, his 15th hole of the second round. After lipping out a par attempt, Fowler hastily went to brush the tap-in to the hole for bogey but app<\/a>eared to stub the putter blade on the grass and merely nudge the ball, which hardly moved. Fowler finished with a 69 for the round and 2-over for the week. The cut was 1-over and Fowler went home. \u2026 Martin Kaymer followed his feel-good-story 66 in the opening round with a nightmarish 82 on Friday to miss the cut.<\/p>\n

\n<\/hr>\n

On three occasions, Brooks Koepka needed a trainer\u2019s assistance to stretch his left hip during the round, literally lying on his back on the ground.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was my hip, nothing to do with my knee,\u2019\u2019 he said. \u201cIt\u2019s fine. I woke up this morning, it was tight, and worked out and it got even tighter and then we loosened it up. It was a little tight when I was hitting balls on the range but it\u2019s nothing to be worried about. We\u2019ll loosen it up again and it will be a lot better.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Cameron Tringale was disqualified from the tournament Friday when he signed for a wrong \u2014 lower\u2014 score on the eighth hole.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
