\n The daily questions surrounding the Marlins\u2019 lineup no longer include who plays what position or where they are hitting in the lineup. Instead, it\u2019s shifted to \u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n

The team is currently playing without more than half of its Opening Day roster following its coronavirus outbreak that has infected 21 members, at least 18 of whom were players. Somehow, that has the Marlins playing some of their best baseball in years.<\/p>\n

In the Marlins\u2019 first action since their season went on pause, they completed a four-game<\/a> sweep of the Orioles on Thursday \u2014 their first four-game sweep since April 2016 against the Dodgers.<\/p>\n

After their 4-3 win over the Mets on Friday night at Citi Field \u2014 making it six in a row \u2014 the Marlins sit atop the National League East with a 7-1 record.<\/p>\n

Still, for Marlins manager Don Mattingly, they\u2019re only as good as their last result.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, the feeling is good because you\u2019re winning, and that\u2019s always good,\u201d Mattingly said before the game. \u201cBut when you go to the next city, you got to establish yourself again. It starts with [Friday].\u201d<\/p>\n

The rag-tag group that started their three-game series<\/a> against the Mets included 10 players from Jupiter, Fla., where the team\u2019s top prospects have been stationed without the minor leagues this year, and various players picked up in free agency or through trades. The 13 Opening Day Marlins who did not test positive \u2014 who have dubbed themselves \u201cThe Trece\u201d (13 in Spanish) \u2014 round out the rest of the active roster.<\/p>\n

One addition \u2014 30-year-old Eddy Alvarez, who made his MLB debut Wednesday \u2014 is a former Olympic speed-skater. The team has been a beacon of hope for players either trying to start or prolong their careers, with new members coming and going every day.<\/p>\n

The team didn\u2019t even name its Friday starter, Humberto Mejia, until hours before the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are coming up or coming in and they\u2019re having success,\u201d said Mike Morin, who made his Marlins debut and pitched two scoreless innings in the team\u2019s 8-7 win over the Orioles on Thursday. \u201cAnd your confidence continues to grow and grow. People have a lot of energy, and it\u2019s fun to be around.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mets, however, aren\u2019t exactly sharing the ever-glowing glee in Miami\u2019s clubhouse. It was the Marlins, after all, that forced the league to tighten its restrictions for travel<\/a>ing teams.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think anyone would be a little ticked off, but hopefully everyone now in the Marlins and Cardinals organization is doing well, but we just got to try and do a better job of social<\/a> distancing and keeping the mask on and keeping away from each other, and if we do that, we\u2019ll be fine and be able to finish the season,\u201d said Robert Gsellman, who was reinstated off the injured list before the game.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
