Tell us again about those \u201ccrippling\u201d sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, President Joe Biden on Friday signed two bills expanding US financial restrictions on Russia, and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan says, \u201cWe will keep working on additional ways to deny them revenue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But none of it can hit that hard as long as Western Europe, utterly dependent on Russia\u2019s oil and gas, <em>can\u2019t<\/em> stop buying it. And the war has roiled markets enough to spike prices, so Bloomberg Economics anticipates Russia will earn about $320 billion from energy exports this year, up more than a third from 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The United States can\u2019t force Germany et al to start exploiting their own energy resources (though European voters can, and should). But America <em>can<\/em> steal Russia\u2019s export markets, if Washington is willing to stop suppressing US energy production and start supporting it. <\/p>\n<p>As <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/russia-is-making-even-more-money-on-energy-under-sanctions-regime\/\">National Review\u2019s Jim Geraghty puts it<\/a>, Biden could announce that the United States is aiming to \u201creplace Russia in the world energy markets and undercut its prices. You don\u2019t need sanctions compliance if you can offer buyers a similar or better good at a lower price.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That will hurt Putin a heck of a lot worse than all the denunciations and sanctions the White House keeps offering instead.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
