The shooting led schools in the area to shelter-in-place for at least several hours. <\/p>\n<p>Some local schools \u2014 PS 24, Sunset Park High School, PS 371 and two locations of Little Brooklyn Pre-K Center \u2014 kept their doors shut until dismissal. <\/p>\n<p>The photo of the kids\u2019 signs was tweeted out by a local journalist and included another handwritten message urging, \u201cHave Hope NYC\u201d followed by a heart.<\/p>\n<p>Additional police and school-safety agents were stationed at schools for dismissal, according to the city Department of Education, and shuttle buses transported students to subway stations.<\/p>\n<p>Some extracurriculars and sports were subject to cancellation, too, a department rep said.<\/p>\n<p>Parents from District 15, which includes Sunset Park and also extends to some of Brooklyn\u2019s wealthiest neighborhoods such as Park Slope and Carroll Gardens, met with DOE staff at a meeting Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-wrapper twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Spotted these kids holding a &#8220;make NYC safe again&#8221; sign to the window of their locked-down Sunset Park High School classroom after the subway shooting today.<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0m0JBo43D8\">https:\/\/t.co\/0m0JBo43D8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jack Crowe (@jackrcrowe) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jackrcrowe\/status\/1513979999166025732?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 12, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSome of our children were on that train,\u201d said Camille Casaretti, president of the district\u2019s Community Education Council, an advisory group comprised of mostly parents. \u201cOur community is going to need a lot of support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The department\u2019s security director, Mark Rampersant, told families there was no plan to shelter-in schools tomorrow \u2014 but that students can expect \u201cwe\u2019re going to show them love\u201d and school safety agents will be available to do \u201ctemperature checks.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SchoolBus.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Photo shows: M\/B on R train shot several people and injured more with a possible explosive device.
