Let\u2019s talk about that.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_Oleophobic_Coating\"><\/span>What Is Oleophobic Coating?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>What is this coating that you may or may not be removing, anyway? \u201cOleophobic\u201d literally means \u201coil fear,\u201d which is a pretty good de<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>ion of what an\u00a0oleophobic coating does.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0oleophobic coating on your phone is there to repel the oils on your fingers. It makes fingerprints and smudges easier to wipe off and can prevent oils from transferring to the display entirely.<\/p>\n<p>Without the coating, your screen would get super greasy very quickly and it wouldn\u2019t feel as nice to swipe and scroll. In fact, that\u2019s usually a good indicator that the\u00a0oleophobic coating is wearing off. When it gets more difficult to keep the screen clean and you feel more traction when sliding your finger.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the\u00a0oleophobic coating is simply a polymer coating on the display that repels oils from your fingers. You may have heard that wipes and cleaning agents that contain alcohol can remove the\u00a0oleophobic coating. Is that true?<\/p>\n<p>All iPhone displays have oleophobic coatings. Here is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT207123\">Apple\u2019s official advice<\/a> for cleaning an iPhone display:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe, 75 percent ethyl alcohol wipe, or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, you may gently wipe the exterior surfaces of your iPhone. Don\u2019t use products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide. Avoid getting moisture in any openings, and don\u2019t submerge your iPhone in any cleaning agents.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/3607085\/type\/am\/sid\/795799\/https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/support\/answer\/ANS00086342\/\">Samsung\u2019s recommendation<\/a>\u00a0for Galaxy devices is similar:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You can also use a disinfectant, such as a hypochlorous acid-based solution (containing 50-80ppm) or an alcohol-based solution (containing more than 70% ethanol or isopropyl alcohol). Do not apply these liquid solutions directly to your device; they should be carefully applied to a microfiber cloth instead.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Both companies recommend using a 70%\u00a0isopropyl alcohol cleaning solution. This is different than a lot of the information you\u2019ll find online, which says anything over 50% alcohol will damage the coating. So are Apple and Samsung intentionally leading people to ruin displays or is the information online false?<\/p>\n<p>The alcohol percentage is just one thing to consider. You also need to pay attention to how often you\u2019re using these cleaners. It\u2019s the repeated use that affects the coating the most. Even cleaners with low alcohol percentages will break down the\u00a0oleophobic coating over time<\/p>\n<p>What constitutes \u201coften\u201d? For starters, you probably shouldn\u2019t be wiping your phone with alcohol multiple times a day or even daily. Plain \u2018ol soap also works just fine and isn\u2019t as abrasive. Thankfully, it is possible to reapply an\u00a0oleophobic coating, though it won\u2019t be quite as good as the factory coating.<\/p>\n<p>The easiest method is to buy a glass screen protector. These usually come with an\u00a0oleophobic coating pre-applied and they\u2019re easy to install. When the coating wears off again, simply apply a new screen protector.<\/p>\n<p>If screen protectors aren\u2019t your thing, you can go the DIY route and apply an aftermarket\u00a0oleophobic coating. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Crystal-Armor-Fingerprint-Oleophobic-Coating\/dp\/B00LKYW6M0\/ref=sr_1_3?tag=hotoge-20\">You can get a kit<\/a> that includes the coating in liquid form and an application cloth. Typically, you\u2019ll put the liquid on the display, spread it evenly, let it dry, and apply another coat. If you\u2019re not doing it all the time, you shouldn\u2019t notice a significant impact.
