men&#8221;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Controversial feminist author Jill Filipovic\u00a0is preaching the \u201coverwhelmingly negative consequences\u201d of stay-at-home moms \u2014\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> watchdogs are coming for her.<\/p>\n<p>Filipovic, 38, detailed her stance that these mothers create \u201cworse, more sexist\u201d men \u2014 and women who are \u201cpsychologically and emotionally worse off\u201d \u2014\u00a0in a now-viral <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JillFilipovic\/status\/1513859053709144064\">Twitter thread<\/a> published on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside her Substack essay \u2014 entitled <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/jill.substack.com\/p\/its-a-bad-idea-to-pay-women-to-stay?s=r\">\u201cIt\u2019s a bad idea to pay women to stay home\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0the Brooklyn-based writer-lawyer tweeted out her thoughts on the subject in response to a recent New York Times <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/04\/09\/opinion\/paying-parents-for-child-care.html\">guest column<\/a> arguing the merits of paying parents to stay home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe problem with paying people to stay home with kids, though, is that (1) we\u2019re overwhelmingly not talking about \u2018people,\u2019 we\u2019re talking about mothers; and (2) pushing women out of work comes with overwhelmingly negative consequences,\u201d begins the thread by the controversial author of \u201cOK, Boomer, Let\u2019s Talk: How My Generation Got Left Behind.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote><p>\u2018More mothers at home makes for worse, more sexist men who see women as mommies.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><cite>Jill Filopvic, in her essay \u201c\u201dIt\u2019s a bad idea to pay women to stay home\u201d<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Filipovic noted that families that are set up in a more traditional sense \u2014 aka a \u201ccarer\/earner nuclear family model\u201d \u2014 is a historical oddity \u201cthat is tremendously isolating and often financially devastating for the carer (almost always a woman).\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also reinforces the gendered division of labor, which ripples out to all women,\u201d she continued. She then recommended a \u201crobust social welfare state\u201d instead of \u201cpaying mothers a small stipend.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore mothers at home makes for worse, more sexist men who see women as mommies. Then universal high-quality childcare [can be added].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle native concluded that the higher powers that be should \u201cjust give people a little extra money when they have babies, and don\u2019t consign people to living in poverty.\u201d Filipovic asserted that \u201cseveral European countries have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/10\/06\/upshot\/child-care-biden.html\">child payments<\/a>, and that makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some commenters on the social media platform agreed with the author\u2019s point of view \u2014 while many others dove hardcore into defending a woman\u2019s right to choose stay-at-home motherhood over an outside career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy not just let women choose? Not everyone wants to sit in a windowless cubicle all day. Some women love the freedom and fresh air. Not everyone is wired for the rat-race,\u201d one <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KeepToTheLight\/status\/1513911453870223361\">social media watchdog barked<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another Twitter critic <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/laurelbrett11\/status\/1513984680323858434\">chimed in<\/a>, \u201cUm, my mother was never more miserable than when she stayed home. Physical abuse of me ensued. I never worked or laid a finger on either of my kids nor would I. Women expect too much these days, but that\u2019s their business and I try not to worry about what they think,\u201d another <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Whatt46HasDone\/status\/1513904809568612363\">added<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Another <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/K10original\/status\/1514196306750676992\">wondered<\/a>, \u201cWhy are Americans so desperately wanting to change America\u2019s foundational qualities? Self reliance is what America is all about, not turning America into our Neighboring Countries who base their constitutions on Ours.
