It\u2019s more surprising to click through and *not* see a warning than to see one. \ud83e\uddf5 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DkvdDiktY8\">pic.twitter.com\/DkvdDiktY8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Singleton (@dps) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dps\/status\/1210680517110247424?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 27, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The consent banners enforced by the bloc\u2019s privacy regulations are among the internet\u2019s most irritating features.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers behind them may have had good intentions, but they\u2019ve merely trained us to blindly click through every notification.<\/p>\n<p>After years of suffering this digital torture, a new AI tool has finally offered hope of an escape.<\/p>\n<p>Named CookieEnforcer, the system was created by researchers from Google and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.<\/p>\n<p>The system was created to stop cookies from manipulating people into making website-friendly choices which put their privacy at risk. Yet it could also end the constant hassle of navigating the notices.<\/p>\n<p>In testing on the top 500 websites in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tranco-list.eu\/\">the Tranco ranking list<\/a>, the team found that the tool was 91% effective at automatically disabling non-essential cookies.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p>                <iframe loading=\"lazy\" srcdoc=\"&lt;style&gt;*{padding:0;margin:0;overflow:hidden}html,body{background:#000;height:100%}img{position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;object-fit:cover;transition:opacity .1s cubic-bezier(0.4,0,1,1)}a:hover img+img{opacity:1!important}&lt;\/style&gt;&lt;a href=\" https:=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/5NI6Q981quc\/hqdefault.jpg\" style=\"top: 50%;left:50%;width:68px;height:48px;transform:translate3d(-50%,-50%,0)\" height=\"240\" width=\"320\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>        <!--resp-video-container--><br \/>\nThe system first detects the dreaded warnings by scanning the rendering pattern of their HTML elements.<\/p>\n<p>CookieEnforcer then analyses the notices and predicts which actions will disable all unnecessary cookies. Finally, the machine-learning model selects the chosen settings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is done by modeling the problem as a sequence-to-sequence task, where the input is a machine-readable cookie notice and the output is the set of clicks to make,\u201d the researchers explain in their <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/2204.04221.pdf\">pre-print study paper<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the tool isn\u2019t yet available to the public, but the team plans to launch it as a simple browser extension.<\/p>\n<p>While you wait, there are a few other means of bypassing cookie pop-ups, such as Duck2DuckGo\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/spreadprivacy.com\/introducing-duckduckgo-for-mac\/\">new browser for Mac<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In this era of ads, trolls, and tech barons ruining the internet, it\u2019s reassuring to know that digital soldiers are still fighting the good fight.<\/p>\n<p><em>HT: <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unite.ai\/machine-learning-vs-cookie-consent-systems\/\">Unite.AI<\/a><\/em>\n                        <\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
