The bond market is closed on Friday.<\/p>\n<p> It\u2019s a shorter week for markets heading into Easter weekend, with U.S. stock exchanges closing a day early, ending the trading week at the closing bell Thursday, known as Holy Thursday (or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/Maundy-Thursday\" class=\"icon none\">Maundy Thursday<\/a>), with no equity trading the following day, Good Friday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       The beginning of Passover, a roughly weeklong holiday, also coincides this year with Good Friday. <\/p>\n<p> Bond markets, on the other hand, operate on a more abbreviated schedule, with trade ending Thursday at 2 p.m. Eastern. SIFMA, the trade association for broker-dealers, recommended the market be closed on Friday. <\/p>\n<p>But there will be a smattering of U.S. economic data due for release before noon Friday, including monthly updates on New York state business conditions and an industrial-output reading for March. <\/p>\n<p>In Europe, stock exchanges will be closed on Good Friday, April 15, through Easter Monday, April 18, reopening on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Good_Friday_backdrop\"><\/span>Good Friday backdrop<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>The big focus for investors \u2014 and households \u2014 heading into the long holiday weekend has been the cost of living, with the U.S. inflation rate having surged sixfold in the past 14 months to an annual rate of 8.5% in March, driven by soaring prices for housing, fuel, groceries, cars and more. <\/p>\n<p><strong>See:<\/strong> Peak inflation? The worst may be over, but Americans likely to keep paying a high price.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s six-week-old invasion of Ukraine has ramped up inflation woes around the globe, with U.S. oil futures<br \/>\n        CL.1,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/211629951\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+1.96%<\/bg-quote><\/p>\n<p>        CL00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209723049\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+1.96%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       this week back above $100 a barrel.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden said Tuesday he will allow high-ethanol blends of gasoline to be sold this summer, typically a heavy driving season, to help offset inflation, which in the U.S. is running at its highest level since 1981.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_impact_Easter_weekend_has_on_the_stock_market\"><\/span>What impact Easter weekend has on the stock market<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>This Easter holiday comes during a difficult stretch for both Wall Street and Main Street, with the S&amp;P 500 index<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-1.04%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Dow Jones Industrial Average<br \/>\n        DJIA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598065\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-0.14%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Nasdaq Composite Index<br \/>\n        COMP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598365\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-2.02%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       each down in a range of around 6% to 13% so far in 2022, according to FactSet.<\/p>\n<p>Bond markets also have faced a brutal reckoning, with yields on the 10-year Treasury note<br \/>\n        TMUBMUSD10Y,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.000%\" channel=\"\" class=\"\">2.689%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       climbing to three-year highs before pulling back in recent sessions. Bond yields move in the opposite direction to prices.<\/p>\n<p>After the Easter pause, investors will turn their focus back to quarterly earnings to gauge the effects of high inflation on companies and their customers. They also will be gearing up for the Fed\u2019s two-day meeting from May 3 to 4, when the fed funds rate may be raised by a half-point, instead of the more typical quarter-point move.
