class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>A \u201cheroic\u201d NYPD school safety agent was slashed inside a Bronx elementary school Thursday morning \u2014 as he stepped in to protect a female guidance counselor whose irate ex-boyfriend showed up to attack her, cops said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old suspect arrived at\u00a0P.S. 69 Journey Prep School on Thieriot Avenue in Clason Point around 7:40 a.m. to confront his ex, a 36-year-old guidance counselor, authorities said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 57-year-old on-duty school safety agent stepped in to shield her \u2014 and ended up getting slashed in the back of his left ear, cops said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The suspect] attempted to assault a teacher,\u201d Mayor Eric Adams said during an unrelated briefing about the city\u2019s Gifted and Talented program. \u201cA heroic act by a school safety agent prevented it from taking place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A 40-year-old male teacher was also slashed on the left arm, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The guidance counselor suffered a bump on the back of her head, cops said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The school safety agent and the is unacceptable. Banks said in a statement. \u201cOur incredible educators and\u00a0School\u00a0Safety Agents work every day to keep our children safe, and I am grateful for their steadfast dedication to our\u00a0schools.
