Not to worry \u2014 it happens to everyone. In most cases, restoring the file is easy. Here\u2019s how to do it.<\/p>\n<p>Deleting extremely large files might prompt a message warning \u201cThis file is too large to recycle, do you want to permanently delete it?\u201d If that is the case, you\u2019ll need to use more sophisticated methods to recover it. If want, you can change the size of the Recycle Bin on Windows so you don\u2019t encounter that message as often.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, most files and folders you \u201cdelete\u201d are temporarily moved to the Recycle Bin before they\u2019re permanently deleted. They can be recovered in just a few clicks.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Recovering_Files_from_the_Recycle_Bin\"><\/span>Recovering Files from the Recycle Bin<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There is a Recycle Bin icon on your desktop by default \u2014 if you haven\u2019t moved it, it\u2019ll be in the top left-hand corner of your desktop.<\/p>\n<p>If it isn\u2019t there, check the rest of your desktop. If it is completely gone, scroll down in the article. Say you deleted five items: a, b, c, d, and e, and you only want to restore a, c, and d. Say you deleted 10 items, named a through j, and you want to restore c through j. Hold Shift, left-click c, and then left-click j.<\/p>\n<p>All of the items between c and j will be selected. There are two simple ways that could happen.<\/p>\n<p>The first is that <em>all<\/em> of your desktop icons have been hidden \u2014 in that case, just right-click empty space on your desktop, go to \u201cView,\u201d and make sure there is a tick next to \u201cShow Desktop Icons.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_note\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> The right-click menu got a significant rework between Windows 10 and Windows 11.
