href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> The social-media platform\u2019s largest shareholder disclosed a bid on Thursday to buy the remainder of the San Francisco\u2013based company\u2019s stock that he doesn\u2019t already own so he can transform it into the world\u2019s \u201cplatform for free speech.\u201d His bid values the social-media company at more than $43 billion. Shares of Twitter<br \/>\n        TWTR,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203180645\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-1.68%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       rose Thursday following the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Musk is leveraging serious pressure on the company\u2019s management. He indicates that if his \u201cbest and final\u201d bid of $54.20 for each Twitter share he doesn\u2019t already own isn\u2019t accepted, he might sell off his stake. His offer represents an 18.2% premium to Wednesday\u2019s closing price of $45.85. \u201cTwitter has extraordinary potential,\u201d Musk said. \u201cI will unlock it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Twitter said it has adopted a shareholder rights plan, or \u201cpoison pill,\u201d that will reduce the chances that a person or group will take control.\u00a0\u201cUnder the Rights Plan, the rights will become exercisable if an entity, person or group acquires beneficial ownership of 15% or more of Twitter\u2019s outstanding common stock in a transaction not <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved by the Board,\u201d the announcement said.<\/p>\n<p>He may have his work cut out for him, if he is successful in his bid for the company. Twitter has challenges that go beyond whether or not the platform should have an edit button, or if the company\u2019s management should reinstate former U.S. President Donald Trump under the banner of \u201cfree speech,\u201d as some conservative commentators have called for.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Twitter has a user problem, data suggest, but that has little do with Elon Musk. Twitter had 217 million monetizable daily active users (mDAUs) in the fourth quarter of 2021 (with 38 million in the U.S.), up from 211 million in the third quarter. However, analysts tracked by FactSet were expecting the platform to add 8 million mDAUs in the quarter. Compare that to Meta-owned<br \/>\n        FB,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205064656\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.24%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       Facebook\u2019s 1.9 billion-plus daily active users. <\/p>\n<p>There are signs of stagnation among Twitter\u2019s users. A <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2021\/04\/07\/social-media-use-in-2021\/\" class=\"icon none\">2021 study<\/a> by the Pew Research Center found that the respective shares of Americans who say they use Instagram, Pinterest<br \/>\n        PINS,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/211319641\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-3.44%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       LinkedIn, Snapchat<br \/>\n        SNAP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205087158\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-4.30%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Twitter and WhatsApp \u201care statistically unchanged <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2019\/04\/10\/share-of-u-s-adults-using-social-media-including-facebook-is-mostly-unchanged-since-2018\/\" class=\"icon none\">since 2019.<\/a>\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis represents a broader trend that extends beyond the past two years in which the rapid adoption of most of these sites and apps seen in the last decade has slowed,\u201d Pew noted. (2021 was the first year Pew asked about TikTok, and the first time it surveyed people about Nextdoor.)<\/p>\n<p>Still, Twitter Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal said on a recent earnings call that he expects user growth to accelerate in 2022. \u201cThese expectations are informed by the data that we see, which has been driven by our work to help people successfully create new accounts and reactivate existing accounts,\u201d he said in February. (The company was not immediately available for comment on its user numbers.)<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n          media-object\n          type-InsetPullQuote\n            inline\n    scope-web|mobileapps\n  article__inset\n          article__inset--type-InsetPullQuote\n            article__inset--inline\n  \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"wsj-article-pullquote article__inset__pullquote \">\n<p class=\"pullquote-content article__inset__pullquote__quote\">\n        <span class=\"l-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--left\">\u201c<\/span>Twitter has challenges that go beyond whether or not the platform should have an edit button. <span class=\"r-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--right\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       There\u2019s also the not insignificant issue about how many of those accounts are fake and\/or anonymous, spreading fake news and potentially creating a toxic environment on the platform that muddies the original stated goal of social-media companies to elevate free speech, and create a more democratic and accessible way for people without a media platform to communicate.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p> The company has committed to sweeping efforts to eliminate fake accounts in recent years, but it\u2019s a persistent problem that won\u2019t go away anytime soon. FRANCE 24 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/observers.france24.com\/en\/europe\/20220411-suspicious-twitter-profiles-journalists-ukraine\" class=\"icon none\">recently flagged \u201csuspicious\u201d Twitter accounts<\/a> that claim to be run by journalists on the frontlines in Ukraine. Last year, Twitter acknowledged that it actually <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/7\/13\/22575025\/twitter-verified-fake-accounts-botnet-researcher\" class=\"icon none\">verified several fake accounts.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>An <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2021\/11\/15\/the-behaviors-and-attitudes-of-u-s-adults-on-twitter\/\" class=\"icon none\">in-depth survey of U.S. adults<\/a> who use Twitter conducted by the Pew Research Center last year found that \u201ca minority of Twitter users produce a majority of tweets from U.S. adults, and the most active tweeters are less likely to view the tone or civility of discussions as a major problem on the site.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fact, an analysis of tweets by a representative sample of 2,548 U.S. adult Twitter users last year found that the most active 25% of U.S. adults on Twitter by tweet volume produced 97% of all tweets from these users. High-volume tweeters have more overtly political motivation, and say the site helps them become even more politically engaged.<\/p>\n<p>The most active users are also less likely to regard the interactions as uncivil \u2014 an ongoing issue that leads some users to cancel their accounts \u2014 and, although they produce the vast majority of content, \u201chighly active tweeters produce relatively few original tweets and receive little engagement from the broader Twitter audience,\u201d Pew found. More than half (58%) of these users say they visit the site daily.<\/p>\n<p>More broadly, 70% of U.S. adults say they visit Facebook daily, a separate Pew report found, a higher rate than Snapchat<br \/>\n        SNAP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205087158\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-4.30%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       (59%), Instagram (59%), Google-owned<br \/>\n        GOOGL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202490156\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.44%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       YouTube (54%) and Twitter (46%). \u201cWhile there has been much written about Americans\u2019 changing relationship with Facebook, its users remain quite active on the platform,\u201d it concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Younger users are key to growth, and Twitter appears to lag in that area, according to Pew. \u201cMajorities of 18- to 29-year-olds say they use Instagram or Snapchat and about half say they use TikTok, with those on the younger end of this cohort \u2013 ages 18 to 24 \u2013 being especially likely to report using Instagram (76%), Snapchat (75%) or TikTok (55%),\u201d Pew found.
