Kathy Hochul said in a new interview that New York would never again be crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic, promising, \u201cI\u2019m not going to shut it down again, you can count on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic Party nominee for governor vowed to not reimpose COVID-related restrictions that ground the state to a halt \u2014 as the Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le faces an uptick in cases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to protect the health of New Yorkers, but I\u2019m also protecting the economy,\u201d she told John Catsimatidis, host of \u201cThe Cats Roundtable,\u201d in an interview out Sunday.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI\u2019m not going to shut it down again, you can count on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hochul\u2019s comments came after New York City health commissioner Dr.\u00a0Ashwin Vasan\u00a0revealed Friday the five boroughs will soon shift to a \u201cmedium-risk\u201d\u00a0level due to an increase in cases driven by the highly contagious Omicron subvariant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the next few days, likely by early next week, we\u2019re going to be entering a new level of risk, moving from a low-risk environment to a medium-risk environment on the basis of cases,\u201d he explained on NY1.<\/p>\n<p>The five boroughs are currently considered a \u201clow\u201d risk for community spread, but health officials say the new subvariant of Omicron, BA.2, as of Wednesday accounted for about 80% of the state\u2019s infections.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/new-york-city-03.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"The Governor issued the statement as COVID-19 cases in New York have begun to rise again. \" class=\"wp-image-21935110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/new-york-city-03.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/new-york-city-03.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/new-york-city-03.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The governor issued the statement as COVID-19 cases in New York have begun to rise again. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Stephen Yang<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As of Friday, the COVID-19 positivity rate in New York City measured on a seven-day average was 4.46% \u2014 up from 1.46% at the same point in March. We now have relationships with the mayor\u2018s office that didn\u2019t exist for a decade,\u201d she added, in reference to the hostile relationship between disgraced ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo and former Mayor Bill de Blasio. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we roll up our sleeves, we work with our law enforcement to get the job done, while respecting the rights of individuals, which is important to us as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In March, major crimes increased by 37%, NYPD statistics released earlier this month showed. In the subway system, major felonies reported have risen 68% so far this year, according to NYPD data. We knew that was unfair,\u201d she explained. \u201cBut some of the more serious offenses, like gun possession offenses, were left out of being bail eligible. \u2026 We stopped that. We [now] have gun charges back under the coverage of the bail laws. They can either be arrest-eligible or bail-eligible. We fixed that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know a lot of people running for office say we didn\u2019t do anything. And I fight like hell for them every single day,\u201d she told\u00a0Catsimatidis. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m rough and tumble, I know how to get the job done, and I\u2019m out there in communities, I know this state \u2014 having been lieutenant governor \u2014 I know it better than anybody.
