About everything else is fantasy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I were Jerry West, I would say call my lawyers. Arn Tellem, vice chairman of the Detroit Pistons and former NBA super-agent, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/jerry-west-arn-tellem-winning-time-guest-column-1235113928\/\">slammed the depiction of West<\/a> in the Hollywood Reporter last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLove @globebobryan, but a bit over these takes,\u201d Pearlman <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeffpearlman\/status\/1515113513991114763\">tweeted Friday<\/a>. \u201cA. It\u2019s NOT a documentary; B. A-n-y-o-n-e. Truth be told, the show is reminding people of Showtime\u2019s greatness, and evoking rich memories of a glorious time in NBA history. Are the characters exact fits? No. They\u2019re (wait for it) actors using (wait for it) scripts written by (wait for it) writers. And the writing is insanely sharp, smart, cool. When I saw the saga of Jack McKinney on screen, I nearly wept tears of joy. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I see Mark Landsberger, Jim Chones, Ron Boone, etc\u2014same. So much of this material had turned history\u2019s ghost. So, no, it\u2019s not a documentary. Yes, leaps and flourishes are taken. His three words to Adam McKay should be \u2018See my lawyer.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pearlman disagreed with the disagreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be clear, HUGE @globeBobRyan admirer. Huge,\u201d the author <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeffpearlman\/status\/1515113515693928449\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cBut I\u2019d also say the Jerry West sainthood movement (especially after ep 1) is a tad much. West literally hired a PI to tail Norm Nixon around LA after (wrongly) suspecting he was a coke addict. West also made some players\u2019 lives torturous with the intensity, the verbal beatdowns. The other day a longtime Laker employee called me and said, \u2018I recognize the Jerry on TV more than the one being described by defenders.\u2019 And this is NOT to say Jerry West isn\u2019t a great man. He is. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never had a bad Interaction. I think he\u2019s a hoop genius; I hated talk of changing the logo from West to Kobe. Jerry West is rightly beloved by many. And, yeah, Jason Clarke\u2019s West is certainly (at times) West on speed.
