federal judge ruling that struck down the U.S. face mask mandate covering airlines and other public transportation, leading some airlines to im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely drop their requirements \u2014 in some cases mid-flight \u2014 and sow confusion among <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ers.<\/p>\n<p> Some took to Twitter to express their worry that young children who are not yet eligible for vaccination or mask rule because its members are divided about the issue, the Associated Press reported. On Monday, the union\u2019s president <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ealed for calm on planes and in airports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last thing we need for workers on the frontlines or passengers traveling today is confusion and chaos,\u201d union leader Sara Nelson said.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC and Justice Department declined to comment to the AP. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is obviously a disappointing decision,\u201d White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters. \u201cThe CDC is recommending wearing a mask on public transit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> The New York City subway will continue to require face masks, as the state has seen a sharp surge in COVID cases recently, as the BA.2 variant of omicron, and two subvariants of BA.2,  have spread fast. <\/p>\n<p>The CDC had recently\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/covid-health-centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention-e603a9dfc361ad095733bc868ebeba74\" class=\"icon none\">extended the mask mandate<\/a>, which was set to expire Monday, until May 3 to allow more time to study BA.2, which is now responsible for the vast majority of cases in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The shift in the U.S. toward personal choice when it comes to COVID-19 precautions could backfire, a former Obama administration health official said Monday. The thinking is that with a majority of the population vaccinated and treatments available that make severe or deadly COVID cases less likely for most people, COVID precautions can become a matter of weighing personal risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy biggest issue with the it\u2019s-your-call kind of theme that\u2019s out there [is] we don\u2019t do this in any other area of illness, health, or disease or burden,\u201d Dr. Kavita Patel, a physician who served as a health policy director in the Obama administration,<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2022\/04\/18\/u-s-health-officials-shift-covid-messaging-to-personal-choice-on-boosters-masking.html\" class=\"icon none\"> told CNBC\u2019s \u201cSquawk Box\u201d<\/a> in an interview.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>\u2018I think that this is unfortunately going to come back to bite us, because we\u2019re not necessarily doing the types of things we should be doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move comes as COVID-19 cases are rising again across the U.S. after their steep decline early in the year.  The U.S. is averaging 39,152 cases a day,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2021\/us\/covid-cases.html?name=styln-coronavirus%C2%AEion=TOP_BANNER&amp;block=storyline_menu_recirc&amp;action=click&amp;pgtype=LegacyCollection&amp;variant=0_Control&amp;is_new=false\" class=\"icon none\">according to a New York Times tracker,<\/a>\u00a0up 43% from two weeks ago. <\/p>\n<p>Cases are rising in 35 of the 50 states and with many people now testing at home, the official count is likely underreported.<\/p>\n<p>On a brighter note, the country is averaging 14,653 hospitalizations a day, down 6% from two weeks ago, and still close to the lowest since the first weeks of the pandemic. The study evaluated the bivalent booster in about 895 people. The PM is expected to again apologize but also repeat that he did not know he was breaking the rules by hosting parties at his London residence. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s what the numbers say<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The global tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 topped 505 million on Tuesday, after breaching the half-billion mark on last Tuesday. The death toll rose above 6.2 million,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.jhu.edu\/map.html\" class=\"icon none\">according to data aggregated by Johns Hopkins University<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. leads the world with 80.7 million cases and more than 988,939 fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#vaccinations_vacc-people-onedose-pop-5yr\" class=\"icon none\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s tracker\u00a0<\/a>shows that 218.6 million people living in the U.S. are fully vaccinated, equal to 65.8% of the total population.
