Taylor reveals that Brown is <strong>making promises<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0an apology to Tamil Canadians, investments in cricket and a new visa office in Kathmandu \u2014 calculated to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eal to specific communities, but is <strong>not putting them on his campaign website<\/strong> or <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> accounts. He is out signing up members.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMy path to victory is not winning the party membership,\u201d he says. \u201cMy path to victory is bringing new people in and having a decent level of support within the party.\u201d He says his team has a large campaign in the Sikh, Muslim, Tamil and Chinese communities \u201cthat have all felt mistreated by the party.\u201d After a brief pause, Brown says: \u201cIf we pull this off, this is part of Canadian history.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Harper redux?<\/strong> Brown is banking on new members to be competitive, but Pierre Poilievre, who has been holding big rallies, seems to have a huge advantage with existing members, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/opinion\/michael-taube-is-pierre-poilievre-the-second-coming-of-stephen-harper\">writes<\/a> former <strong>Stephen Harper<\/strong> speechwriter <strong>Michael Taube<\/strong> in the <em>Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When I endorsed Poilievre in the <em>Post<\/em> a couple of days before he entered the race, I knew that he was going to be a strong candidate. I never expected him to leave the rest of the pack in the dust this early in the campaign. Angus Reid\u2019s mid-March poll had Poilievre 39 points ahead of his closest competitor, <strong>Jean Charest<\/strong>. A more recent Abacus Data poll showed that Poilievre was favoured by 46 per cent of Conservative supporters, followed by Charest (24 per cent), <strong>Patrick Brown<\/strong> (13 per cent) and <strong>Leslyn Lewis<\/strong> (11 per cent).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Warning!<\/strong> Postmedia has two columns warning that elites are trying to label Poilievre as a populist because they are frightened of him, one from <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/torontosun.com\/opinion\/columnists\/gunter-our-political-elites-have-become-hysterically-fearful-of-regular-canadians\">Lorne Guntner<\/a>, one from\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/opinion\/sabrina-maddeaux-calling-pierre-poilievre-a-populist-is-a-lazy-scare-tactic-used-by-the-elites-he-threatens\">Sabrina Maddeaux<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unclear as yet:<\/strong> In the <em>Hill Times<\/em>, <strong>Abbas Rana<\/strong> has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hilltimes.com\/2022\/04\/18\/poilievre-has-captured-the-attention-of-canadians-but-unclear-if-this-will-translate-into-a-win-say-politicos\/356341\">a useful roundup of insider opinion<\/a> on the state of the race. Something significant is happening with Poilievre\u2019s big crowds, but it\u2019s not absolutely clear what just yet.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Greg Lyle<\/strong>, president of Innovative Research said that there\u2019s no denying the Poilievre campaign is attracting large crowds, but it\u2019s hard to know at this point who these people are and whether they will vote for the Ottawa MP at voting time in this leadership election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fair to say that there\u2019s smoke, but <strong>we don\u2019t know that that smoke is a fire<\/strong>,\u201d said Lyle. \u201cHow many of the people in that crowd are fiscal conservatives that like what he says, how many people in that crowd are convoy protesters, how many in that crowd are crypto currency people? Your guess is as good as mine. I don\u2019t think anybody knows that. So something is connecting but what that something is we can\u2019t tell just by looking at the people in the room.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s complicated:<\/strong> In the <em>Toronto Sun<\/em>, <strong>Brian Lilley<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/torontosun.com\/opinion\/columnists\/lilley-can-anyone-beat-pierre-poilievre-for-conservative-leader\">explains<\/a> that the complex voting system \u2014 in which each riding has the same weight, regardless of how many members it has \u2014 makes it <strong>hard to be sure<\/strong> who will win.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Having crowds is better than not having crowds at your rallies, but the Conservative Party elects its leaders using a complex voting system that includes ranked ballots and a points system for each riding in the country. Even selling the most memberships isn\u2019t enough. You have to sell enough memberships and get enough votes from existing members in all the right places to win. I asked both the <strong>Patrick Brown<\/strong> and <strong>Jean Charest<\/strong> campaigns how they can possibly overcome Poilievre\u2019s crowds and both said that though the sheer number of people is impressive, they still think they can win.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>A path?<\/strong> In\u00a0<em>le Journal de Montr\u00e9al<\/em>,\u00a0<strong>Emmanuelle Latraverse<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.journaldemontreal.com\/2022\/04\/17\/jean-charest-peut-il-encore-esperer-lemporter\">observes<\/a> that the complicated process may leave a path to victory for Charest, and anyway, nobody knows yet who has sold the most memberships (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www-journaldemontreal-com.translate.goog\/2022\/04\/17\/jean-charest-peut-il-encore-esperer-lemporter?_x_tr_sl=fr&amp;_x_tr_tl=en&amp;_x_tr_hl=en-US&amp;_x_tr_pto=wapp\">translation<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text ep-1 font-pratt\"><strong>Giving up:<\/strong> A Canadian veterans group is giving up its efforts to evacuate Afghans, citing <strong>staff burnout and federal red tape<\/strong>, the <em>Globe<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-canadian-veterans-group-afghan-rescue-efforts\/\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text ep-1 font-pratt\">The Veterans Transition Network, which says it raised $3.6-million and helped rescue 2,061 Afghans since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August, 2021, is refocusing on its main priority of helping Canadian veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental-health problems. Oliver Thorne, VTN executive director, said onerous government paperwork, lack of federal funding and the difficulty of finding safe routes out of Afghanistan forced the charitable organization to give up its evacuation work.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Slow to help:<\/strong> Former CDS <strong>Rick Hillier<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/politics\/john-ivison-in-ukraines-moment-of-desperation-canada-hesitates-on-heavy-weapons\">tells<\/a> <strong>John Ivison<\/strong> in the <em>Post<\/em> that the government should skip a \u201cconvoluted\u201d budgetary process for military aid for Ukraine and send 250 LAV3s from its current stock , along with spare parts packages and some trainers. \u201c<strong>Why are we not sending them<\/strong> in this moment of desperation?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Three?<\/strong> The <em>Post<\/em> also has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/politics\/canada-has-three-embassies-in-moscow-and-spends-millions-of-rubles-on-their-upkeep?utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_medium=organic&amp;utm_campaign=broadsheet_promo#Echobox=1650317169-1\">a story<\/a>\u00a0about Canada\u2019s three embassy buildings in Moscow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health first:<\/strong> <strong>John Horgan<\/strong> told <strong>Rosemary Barton<\/strong> on Sunday that Ottawa should fund the health-care system rather than introduce new programs, CBC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/horgan-health-care-funding-dental-1.6422149\">reports<\/a>: \u201cWould it be grand to have a national dental care plan? Absolutely. But I think we need to start with first principles, and that is stable funding so that we can do the hip replacement, so we can have a human resource strategy for our primary care sector.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bilingualism fail:<\/strong> The commissioner of official languages has ruled that events broadcast on <strong>Justin Trudeau\u2019s<\/strong> Facebook page must be accessible in French and English, CP\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalnewswatch.com\/2022\/04\/18\/events-broadcast-on-trudeaus-facebook-page-must-be-bilingual-language-commissioner\/#.Yl3m1m4VgcC.twitter\">reports<\/a>. At issue is the lack of\u00a0French-language translation of a July 6 news conference announcing the appointment of <strong>Mary Simon<\/strong> as Governor <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Realtors irked:<\/strong>\u00a0The Canadian real estate industry is gearing up to fight Ottawa\u2019s plan to ban blind bidding, the <em>Globe<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/business\/article-canada-real-estate-ban-blind-bidding\/\">reports<\/a>. The April 7 budget proposed to stop the practice, in which buyers\u00a0 do not know what others are offering to pay for a home.
