href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> story reports there was a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/black-americans-paid-enormous-price-for-defund-the-police-movement\">staggering 43% increase in the murders of black Americans<\/a> in 2020 compared to the past 10-year average.<\/p>\n<p>The finding is shocking \u2014 but not surprising. After all, New York proved decades ago that reducing crime disproportionally benefited blacks and Latinos because they comprise most of crime\u2019s victims. Fewer crimes mean fewer victims of all races, but the drop is most pronounced among nonwhites.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If we didn\u2019t know it before, we now know the opposite is also true. More crimes mean more black and Latino victims.<\/p>\n<p>All this matters because the nation\u2019s large cities are so swamped by horrific crime and violence that police, criminologists and a few honest elected Democrats are finally conceding the obvious: the progressive movement, including Black Lives Matter, that ostensibly aimed to protect minority racial groups by defunding the police and coddling criminals backfired big time.<\/p>\n<p>The people the progressives claimed to be helping actually were harmed by the anti-police, pro-criminal policies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bill Bratton, who led the Los Angeles police between two terms as head of the NYPD, recently put it this way on a podcast: \u201cThe scales right now are tipped very heavily in favor of the reforms of the progressive left .\u2009.\u2009. and what we have as a result is this growing fear of crime, this growing actual amount of crime in almost every American city.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"780\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/112021Adams2BS.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Showing NY Mayor elect, Eric Adams arriving at 78th Street and Caldwell Avenue in Middle Village, Queens, NY. \" class=\"wp-image-21964423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/112021Adams2BS.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=2048 2048w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/112021Adams2BS.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/112021Adams2BS.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/112021Adams2BS.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Mayor Eric Adams said trust between some black New Yorkers and police cannot be rebuilt by allowing \u201cthose who are dangerous and that have a repeated history of violence to continue to be on our streets.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Brigitte Stelzer<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mayor Adams agreed, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/office-of-the-mayor\/news\/216-22\/transcript-sunday-april-17-2022-mayor-eric-adams-appears-abc-s-this-week-george\">telling ABC News<\/a> that while there had been issues of trust between police and some black New Yorkers, \u201cwe can\u2019t rebuild that trust by allowing those who are dangerous and that have a repeated history of violence to continue to be on our streets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet it\u2019s too kind to suggest the proponents were well intentioned but just went too far. All along, there was voluminous evidence showing they were taking huge risks by toying with unprecedented success.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They should have known better but common sense is not so common on the activist left. Records show 7,484 black Americans were murdered in 2019 and 9,941 in 2020, an increase of 2,457 victims.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, between 2010 and 2019, there was an average of 6,927 black murder victims each year, meaning the 2020 carnage involved 3,014 murders above the 10-year average.<\/p>\n<p>Although blacks make up only 13% of the US population, they often are a majority of murder victims and perpetrators.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The year 2020 was an inflection point for various reasons. Although an anti-police movement has long been a fixture on the left, a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of police incidents in previous years culminated in the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police. Murders fell from about 2,000 a year in the early 1990s to 300, sparking an economic and cultural renaissance that I liken to a new Golden Age.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But political profiteers undermined that success and turned the 2013 mayoral election into a referendum on supposed police brutality and racism. De Blasio and others in the anti-cop crowd often turned their fire on Kelly, the longest-serving police commissioner in city history. Kelly\u2019s sin was being an ardent defender of stop, question and frisk, which he cited as a prime tool for getting \u00adillegal handguns off the street.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The benefits were far greater than anticipated. Bloomberg took to calling police officers \u201cfirst preventers\u201d instead of first responders.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Super-popular_Kelly\"><\/span>Super-popular Kelly<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A poll from early 2013, Bloomberg\u2019s last year in office, captured the public mood. Even most of those who didn\u2019t necessarily like stop-and-frisk still saw the police as their protectors and approved of Kelly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>De Blasio and his ilk in other cities broke that system for ideological reasons and career gains.
