also probably his last.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Taking the stand Tuesday, Depp\u2019s hourslong testimony, delivered in a soft, often halting voice, sounded nothing like a strident defense against spousal abuse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Depp depicted himself \u2014 brilliantly \u2014 as a confused, sad, gentle soul who somehow stumbled into global fame and ungodly wealth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As if the .000000001% of people who attain worldwide recognition and fortunes of more than $600 million get there by accident.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At one point, Depp even stood up in the witness box to re-enact his mother\u2019s suicide attempt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Can you imagine? Or really, to care.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We can probably count on one hand how many genuine movie stars are left: Brad Pitt. Leonardo DiCaprio. Sandra Bullock. But their status relies as much on mythmaking \u2014 none are active on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> \u2014 as professional prestige.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And Pitt, unlike Depp, was smart enough to litigate his divorce behind closed doors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sob-story_soliloquy\"><\/span>Sob-story soliloquy\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In pursuit of this Pyrrhic victory, Depp sat on the witness stand and offered up all his childhood trauma: emotional and physical abuse at the hands of his parents; taking his mother\u2019s \u201cnerve pills\u201d at age 11; his mother\u2019s impoverished background, raised in the shacks and hollers of Kentucky; and a jump-cut to his addiction to the opiate Roxicodone, doing cocaine with Heard\u2019s sister, Whitney, the \u201cpure horror of detoxing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also testified to the details of his affair with Heard \u2014 details their former partners probably did not know until now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For nearly four hours, Depp droned on and on. Really, who can blame him? God knows when he\u2019ll next have such a captive audience. But the performance \u2014 wow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With his knitted eyebrows, shy smiles directed to his ex-wife, his apologies over proper gender terminology, a thoughtful \u201cBless you\u201d to a sneezer in the courtroom \u2014 it was easy to forget that this was a spoiled actor who blew up his Disney franchise over drug use, who squandered his $650 million fortune, who asked his private female nurse for drugs he described as \u201csome f\u2013king knock-out yum-yum\u201d and for \u201csome morphine to see if my tongue and penis touch,\u201d who described Heard in texts as \u201cthis waste of a c-m-guzzler\u201d and a \u201cdangling, overused flappy fish market\u201d whom he would like to set on fire and then \u201cf\u2013k her corpse\u201d \u2026 et cetera.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And like the best actors on press junkets, Depp treated every question asked by his lawyer \u2014 questions he surely heard over and over in hours of courtroom prep \u2014 as if he was hearing them for the very first time. His answers sounded totally off-the-cuff. At times, the questions seemed to take him by surprise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He does vulnerability well.
