cannabis holiday of April 20 at a very official place.<\/p>\n<p> With cannabis fans highlighting April 20 as a special day for stoners and pot now legal in the Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le and New Jersey, Leafly Holdings Inc.<br \/>\n        LFLY,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/215497120\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.20%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       CEO Yoko Miyashita chose the crossroads of finance at the Times Square Nasdaq headquarters in New York City to generate a buzz around the stock\u2019s initial listing on the exchange earlier in 2022.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       \u201cThere is not a lot in this business that\u2019s easy \u2014 it\u2019s faced decades of prohibition,\u201d she told a crowd of about 100 cheering employees, shareholders and board members of the cannabis marketplace gathered at the Nasdaq. \u201cLeafly has emerged as a mainstream change-maker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also Read: <\/strong>How 420 the stoner\u2019s holiday went mainstream <\/p>\n<p>With cannabis still illegal under federal law, the Nasdaq continues to ban plant-touching companies that do business in the U.S. from trading on the exchange. The New York Stock Exchange has a similar policy.<\/p>\n<p>While Leafly provides information on cannabis strains and helps consumers purchase cannabis, it does not have any direct contact with the plant, so it\u2019s one of many U.S.-focused cannabis companies that trade on the Nasdaq. (See chart at bottom of story).<\/p>\n<p>Leafly stock began trading in February after it was acquired by special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) Merida Merger Corp. I in a deal with an equity value of about $532 million. The stock has since risen to just above $10 a share after trading at the $6 to $7 level shortly after it made its debut.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, cannabis stocks have been moribund in 2022 amid dim prospects for federal legalization. The AdvisorShares Pure US Cannabis ETF<br \/>\n        MSOS,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/220307682\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.95%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       is down about 30% this year, even as states continue to introduce adult use and medical use programs as a way to drum up more tax revenue from cannabis cultivation, distribution and sales. In comparison, the S&amp;P 500 index<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.27%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       has slipped 6.0% year to date.<\/p>\n<p>Leafly traces its roots to founder Brendan Kennedy, the former executive of SVB Financial Group subsidiary Silicon Valley Bank<br \/>\n        SIVB,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200548254\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.92%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       who formed cannabis private-equity firm Privateer Capital, which has backed Leafly, Marley Natural and Tilray Inc.<br \/>\n        TLRY,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209129655\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-5.10%<\/bg-quote><span>.<\/span><br \/>\n       Kennedy helped launch the company as a cannabis information source. <\/p>\n<p>At least check, the company employs about 236 people with 2021 revenue of $43 million and a net loss of $12 million. Prior to Leafly, she was senior vice president and general counsel at Getty Images from 2005 to 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cannabis lovers have been celebrating April 20 for decades, but the date has never received any official designation by Congress or any other major governmental body. Nevertheless, it has spread mostly through word of mouth.  <\/p>\n<p>Four-twenty observances have grown in renown as more states legalized the plant for medical and adult use.   <\/p>\n<p>New Jersey, for example, will begin adult-use sales of recreational cannabis on Thursday with a limited number of stores. <\/p>\n<p>Leafly is one of many ancillary cannabis companies that trade on the Nasdaq including GrowGeneration Corp.<br \/>\n        GRWG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207254713\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.61%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Hydrofarm Holdings Group Inc.<br \/>\n        HYFM,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/223043492\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.41%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Village Farms International Inc.<br \/>\n        VFF,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207525872\/composite\" class=\"\"><\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and business development company Silver Spike Investment Corp.<br \/>\n        SSIC,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/228313443\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.91%<\/bg-quote><span>.<\/span><br \/>\n       (See chart at bottom of article for full list).<\/p>\n<p>The Nasdaq allows some plant touching companies such as Organigram, Cronos Group<br \/>\n        CRON,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/206842762\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.55%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Tilray Brands Inc.<br \/>\n        TLRY,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209129655\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-5.10%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       to trade because they\u2019re based in Canada, where pot remains legal nationally. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Also Read:<\/strong> Cannabis company that DEA is allowing to grow for research purposes to list shares on Nasdaq<\/p>\n<p>The roots of 420 go back to the 1970s in northern California, when a group of high-school students would meet at 4:20 in the afternoon to smoke cannabis and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a>ize. <\/p>\n<p>High Times editor Steve Bloom helped popularize 420 by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.celebstoner.com\/blogs\/steve-bloom\/2013\/04\/12\/420-birth-of-a-stoner-notion\/\" class=\"icon none\">writing about a 420 flyer<\/a> that he found at a Grateful Dead show in Oakland, Calif., in 1990.
