\n Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday railed against President Trump\u2019s new executive orders for coronavirus relief, saying it\u2019s \u201claughable\u201d to expect cash-strapp<\/a>ed New York to pitch in more money for unemployment.<\/p>\n

Trump on Saturday announced a $400 weekly enhanced jobless benefits, reduced from $600, of which the states would have to cover 25 percent, or $100.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the president has done has made it impossible, impossible on the state,\u201d Cuomo said during a conference call with reporters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe concept of saying to states \u2018you pay 25 percent of unemployment insurance\u2019 is just laughable,\u201d Cuomo said.<\/p>\n

Covering part of the benefits would set the Empire State back $4 billion, Cuomo estimated, saying the cost was \u201cirreconcilable.\u201d<\/p>\n

The orders also don\u2019t solve the issue of getting states aid from the federal government amid the health crisis, the governor said, adding: \u201cYou can\u2019t now say to states, who have no funding, \u2018you have to pay off the insurance cost.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The orders signed by Trump on Saturday \u2014 which aim to provide financial relief to Americans suffering amid the pandemic \u2014 have been criticized by Democrats as an attempt to bypass Congress.<\/p>\n

Cuomo claimed the actions are \u201con shaky ground legally\u201d and can\u2019t replace another coronavirus relief bill.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey need legislation,\u201d he said, \u201cit\u2019s the only way to do it.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
