dumped.<\/p>\n<p>Netherlands-based Just Eat Takeaway.com said on Wednesday it is exploring a partial or full sale of GrubHub or bringing in a strategic partner at the urging of its shareholders.<\/p>\n<p>After reporting a first quarter 5% decline in take-out orders in North America, JET is facing growing pressure from an activist investor \u2013 Cat Rock Capital \u2013 to get rid of Grubhub.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In October, the Greenwich, Conn. hedge fund\u2019s founder Alex Captain said in a letter to the delivery company\u2019s board that Grubhub was dragging it down and is the \u201croot cause of the public market\u2019s loss of confidence in JET.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Captain also said JET management is \u201cdistracted\u201d by Grubhub, which has caused investors to \u201cquestion JET management\u2019s judgement and motivations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The $7.3 billion deal was supposed to give the European delivery company a leg up in the United States \u2014 but instead it has dragged the company down as Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted and more people are dining out instead of ordering food to go.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img Grubhub stronghold for years. <\/p>\n<p>The company \u2013 along with the entire delivery sector \u2013 is also under regulatory pressure in a number of large cities that are introducing legislation
