(It was the buffoonish sales manager Herb Tarlek, played by Frank Bonner, whose clumsiness turned the party in Andy\u2019s honor into a messy affair.)<\/p>\n<p>That moment of slapstick TV comedy on April 21, 1982, wasn\u2019t meant to be the last fans saw of the WKRP crew, but CBS canceled the show two weeks later as it made room on its schedule for shows like <em>Square Pegs<\/em> and <em>Newhart<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>H<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ily, the radio station made a comeback nearly a decade later in <em>The New WKRP in Cincinnati<\/em>, but for many fans, there\u2019s no substitute for the original. Now that we\u2019ve reached the 40th anniversary of that <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> finale, let\u2019s tune the dial back to WKRP. This is great!\u2019 They saw it as a great publicity opportunity for them.\u2026 They thought it was wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Classic TV Themes: WKRP in Cincinnati\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kCTdaYu3FsA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>It was a CBS show but showcased an NBC affiliate\u2019s broadcast tower.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seems like the CBS lawyers had no qualms with the <em>WKRP<\/em> opening credits zeroing in on a broadcast tower belonging to NBC affiliate WLWT. (Tower buff Scott Fybush <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fybush.com\/site-030130.html\">pointed out that incongruous fact<\/a> on his blog in 2003.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Cassidy turned down the part of Dr. Johnny Fever.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <em>Partridge Family<\/em> star and teen idol was <em>WKRP<\/em> producers\u2019 first choice for disc jockey Dr. Johnny Fever, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.metv.com\/lists\/12-fascinating-facts-about-wkrp-in-cincinnati\">MeTV<\/a>, and when he said no to the role, Howard Hesseman took the part. Well, Hugh and [<em>WKRP<\/em> music composer] Tom [Wells] thought that was funny and that it made a joke about the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> unintelligibility of rock lyrics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>WKRP<\/em> gave the Blondie song \u201cHeart of Glass\u201d a big boost.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Johnny cues up the disco-esque \u201cHeart of Glass\u201d in the Season 1 episode \u201cCommercial Break,\u201d weeks before the RIAA certified the song Gold and the Blondie album <em>Parallel Lines<\/em> Platinum. The <em>WKRP<\/em> producers later received a golden <em>Parallel Lines<\/em> record trophy in recognition of the show helping the album become a hit, according to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paleycenter.org\/events\/2014-wkrp-in-cincinnati-reunion\/\">Paley Center for Media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"WKRP in Cincinnati S03E12   Venus and the Man\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/khD8fvpqKYI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>The show won a Humanitas Prize in 1981.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking of awards, Wilson won a Humanitas Prize in 1981 for the <em>WKRP<\/em> Season 3 episode \u201cVenus and the Man,\u201d in which deejay Venus Fly Trap (Tim Reid) helps keep a Black teen in school. The Humanitas Prize, bestowed by the Human Family Educational and Cultural Institute, rewards film and TV writers \u201cwhose work explores the human condition in a nuanced, meaningful way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Loni Anderson stayed on the show after getting a big pay bump.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>TV historians Tim Brooks and Earle F. Marsh note in <em>The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows<\/em> that Loni Anderson, who played receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on <em>WKRP<\/em>, demanded a \u201chuge increase in salary\u201d after she became a sex symbol during the show\u2019s run. In that sequel series, Gordon Jump (Arthur Carlson), Richard Sanders (Les Nessman), and Bonner reprised their roles on a full-time basis, Hesseman came back as a recurring star, and Anderson and Reid appeared as guest stars.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A 2014 DVD release restored the \u201cvast majority\u201d of the <em>WKRP<\/em> soundtrack.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to a music-rights loophole, the <em>WKRP in Cincinnati<\/em> producers got to use hit songs at a savings because the show was shot on videotape instead of film, according to the <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20070422030737\/http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/459\/story\/1131165.html\">Star Tribune<\/a><\/em>. Once those rights expired, however, the music in question had to be excised from reruns of <em>WKRP<\/em> episodes.<\/p>\n<p>Then, in 2014, Shout!
