According to the Austrian <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>paper Kleine Zeitung, the pilot project, which featured a lone Bitcoin ATM in a MediaMarkt shop,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kleinezeitung.at\/wirtschaft\/6128125\/Zusammen-mit-Kurant_MediaMarkt-installiert-BitcoinAutomaten-in?%3Futm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=twitterHauptseite\">proved<\/a> that \u201cBitcoin ATMs in shops offer an opportunity to attract new customers.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>As Europe\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mediamarkt.com\/#:~:text=At%20a%20glance,Number%20One%20consumer%20electronics%20retailer.\">largest<\/a>\u00a0consumer electronics retailer, MediaMarkt operates in 13 countries, with over 850 stores and revenue <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ceconomy.de\/media\/ceconomy_annual_report_2020_21.pdf\">exceeding<\/a>\u00a021 billion euros ($23 billion) in 2021. MediaMarkt partnered with Coinfinity, an Austrian Bitcoin company, to manage the pilot and subsequent rollout of the ATMs.<\/p>\n<p>Confinity and its spinoff ATM company, Kurant, manage over 200 Bitcoin ATMs in Austria, Germany, Spain and Greece. Source: Kurant<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bitcoin ATMs\u00a0(automated teller machines), sometimes jokingly referred to as BTMs (Bitcoin teller machines), offer Bitcoin enthusiasts a means to cash out their BTC or deposit fiat. By simply scanning a wallet address, they can receive satoshis (the smallest denomination of BTC) or cash.<\/p>\n<p>The news of more Bitcoin ATMs coming to Austria is welcome, considering that the growth in Bitcoin ATMs around the world has slowed in 2022. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Santo Blockchain to deliver 50 Bitcoin ATMs to Panama<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The United Kingdom recently clamped down on non-registered ATMs\u00a0as its\u00a0Financial Conduct Authority takes a tougher stance on Bitcoin ATMs due to a lack of regulatory structure.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-04\/68c3b17b-ff3f-479a-90a2-5d3a2856cf97.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\">Bitcoin ATM. Source: BitBase<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For BitBase, a Spanish Bitcoin ATM provider seeking to operate in Portugal, the group has established physical outlets in Lisbon, but regulators have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jornaldenegocios.pt\/mercados\/criptoativos\/detalhe\/espanhois-da-bitbase-pedem-ao-bdp-para-operar-em-portugal\">stalled<\/a> official openings.
