\n Chinese hackers have targeted US election infrastructure, the White House\u2019s national security adviser warned Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019d like to see the President lose,\u201d\u00a0Robert O\u2019Brien told CBS News<\/a>\u2019 \u201cFace The Nation\u201d. \u201cChina \u2014 like Russia, like Iran \u2014 they\u2019ve engaged in cyberattacks and phishing and that sort of thing with respect to our election infrastructure, with respect to websites and that sort of thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a real concern,\u201d O\u2019Brien said, saying hackers have been trying to access government websites as well as \u201cinfluence operations, whether it\u2019s on TikTok or Twitter<\/a> and other spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said President Trump has made enemies by being \u201ctougher on China than any president in history.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether it\u2019s China, Russia or Iran, we\u2019re not going to put up with it,\u201d O\u2019Brien vowed in his first TV interview since recovering from the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd there will be severe consequences with any country that attempts to interfere with our free and fair election,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether their leaders prefer Joe Biden or prefer Donald Trump, it doesn\u2019t matter. We\u2019re Americans.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not going to have foreign countries deciding who our next president is going to be. That\u2019s outrageous.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an app<\/a>arent direct message to the accused nations, he again said, \u201cDon\u2019t get involved in our elections \u2026 Don\u2019t do it because there will be severe consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien said the Trump administration had \u201cmade it very clear\u201d to Russia to stay out of the election, despite a report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence on Friday saying the Kremlin was trying to \u201cdenigrate\u201d Joe Biden\u2019s bid while giving a \u201cboost\u201d to Trump\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s almost nothing we can sanction left of the Russians,\u201d O\u2019Brien said, insisting that \u201cno administration has been tougher\u201d on the nation since its apparent meddling in the 2016 election.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve sanctioned the heck out of the Russians \u2014 individuals, companies, the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve kicked out literally scores of Russian spies. We\u2019ve closed down all their consulates on the West Coast. We closed down diplomatic facilities. There\u2019s not a lot left we can do with the Russians,\u201d he said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
