\n Andres Gimenez\u2019s raw talent has been on display for two weeks, but Sunday he took that step from nice looking player with a potential big upside to somebody who put the Mets on his back and won a game<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The rookie infielder\u2019s bat and legs \u2014 in addition to his already evident smooth defense \u2014 are bringing maybe the most energy to the Mets lineup since Jose Reyes in his prime.<\/p>\n

On this day, the 21-year-old Gimenez ignited all three the Mets\u2019 scoring rallies in a 4-2 victory over the Marlins at Citi Field that gave them only their second back-to-back wins this season.<\/p>\n

With Jacob deGrom battling a finger issue that necessitated a visit to the mound by trainer Brian Chicklo in the second inning, the Mets leaned heavily on Gimenez and the bullpen in holding off the Marlins.<\/p>\n

DeGrom (2-0) was removed after 98 pitches and five innings in which he allowed two earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Jared Hughes, Dellin Betances, Edwin Diaz and Seth Lugo pitched the final four innings scoreless to finish it.<\/p>\n

Gimenez, starting at second base with Robinson Cano on the injured list, went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double and a stolen base in raising his average to .333 in 33 at-bats this season.<\/p>\n

It was Gimenez\u2019s bunt single leading off the sixth that led to the Mets getting their final run on Jeff McNeil\u2019s sacrifice fly. Gimenez had also scored two earlier runs.<\/p>\n

DeGrom was on the verge of surviving five innings unscathed, when Jesus Aguilar smashed a two-run homer with two outs that pulled the Marlins within 3-2. It was the second straight start in which deGrom allowed a homer \u2014 former teammate Travis d\u2019Arnaud went deep against him Monday in Atlanta.<\/p>\n

Gimenez sparked a Mets rally in the third with a leadoff single and stolen base. After walks to Tomas Nido and Brandon Nimmo loaded the bases, McNeil\u2019s RBI fielder\u2019s choice brought in a run, and Corey Dickerson mishandled Michael Conforto\u2019s fly to left for an error that gave the Mets a 2-0 lead.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
