From \u201cmanaging food, fish, diamonds, minerals\u2013the supply chain,\u201d Ottoni told Cointelegraph. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-04\/481e5379-19db-49dc-9da6-ef990b42db6e.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\">The interview took place during Paris Blockchain Week Summit. Source: Cointelegraph<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While HyperLedger works in every industry, for Ottoni personally, it\u2019s the impact on climate and climate action that most inspires her. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cTo know whether or not the minerals that are being used for our cell phones, the tungsten being used in our cell phones or computers or cars if they&#8217;re coming from a sustainable.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Blockchain <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> has long been hailed as an effective tool against climate change, while a\u00a0 new school of thought on Bitcoin (BTC)\u00a0evaluates Bitcoin mining as a means to incentivize the buildout of renewable energy plants. <\/p>\n<p>However, the longstanding discussion \u201cdo you need a blockchain for that?\u201d crops up. Ottoni cites the aforementioned tungsten mining operation in Rwanda as a successful implementation of blockchain technology that is more effective than a database.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWith a database, you have to trust whoever is managing it. There are a number of different actors in the space: the companies, the refiners, the governments \u2013 and importantly, these are all actors that don&#8217;t necessarily trust each other.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ottoni explains that these actors\u2013good or bad\u2013would \u201cbenefit from the visibility of shared data and shared transactions that wasn&#8217;t as visible before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Drawbacks remain, however.\u00a0 \u201cBad data in is bad data out,\u201d Ottoni concedes. To date, HyperLedger has roused interest at IBM, among other large corporations.<\/p>\n<p>As for CBDCs, which most banks are now considering, Ottoni explains that CBDCs are the \u201cevolution of digitizing assets.\u201d Ottoni expands:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cI think it&#8217;s [CBDCs] going to be a part of the mix. There will be cryptocurrencies as there\u2019s a value proposition there; there\u2019s going to continue to be stablecoins, and a central bank.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As an example, CBDCs make sense in the wake of a natural disaster: \u201cfollowing a hurricane, CBDCs allow the quick distribution of funds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for the future of blockchain, Ottoni explains that \u201cinteroperability\u201d is her most pressing concern. Not necessarily between blockchains, but in terms of developers, thinkers, and teams sharing ideas and collaborating more effectively. <\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, there just needs to be more examples of \u201ctesting, proving and showing that these tools work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"markets_outlook\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
