\n Eye on the economy: Don Rescues US\u00a0\u00a0\u2014 Again<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Trump showed once again Saturday that he places America and the American people first when\u201d he used his executive powers to end the congressional gridlock over the next coronavirus relief package, cheers Andy Puzder at FoxNews<\/a>.com. \u201cDemocrats have made it increasingly obvious that they view the virus as an opportunity to demonize Trump\u201d and to push \u201cradical priorities.\u201d The president sidestepped their machinations with decisive action,\u00a0\u201csigning four executive orders\u201d that \u201cextend a lifeline to American families.\u201d Kudos!<\/p>\n

From the right: A Lawless NRA Lawsuit<\/strong><\/p>\n

New York Attorney General<\/a> Letitia James\u2019 attempt to dissolve the \u00adNational Rifle Association is not only \u201cbananas,\u201d but also \u201ca plainly partisan political attack,\u201d charge the editors of National Review. To be sure, she may well uncover \u201cactionable financial wrongdoing\u201d among NRA leadership.\u201d Failing that, though, nonprofit honchos don\u2019t \u201ctake a vow of poverty,\u201d and the NRA\u2019s decision to compensate its execs \u201crather splendidly\u201d is \u201cnot a crime.\u201d Even if NRA boss Wayne LaPierre did commit crimes by spending \u201cfunds on himself and his family,\u201d as James claims, the feds haven\u2019t \u00adaccused him of anything, and she has decided to seek dissolution instead of just indicting him. It all adds up to \u201cpure political score-settling\u201d \u2014 an \u00ad\u201cassault on the First Amendment, the rule of law and democracy itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Poverty watch: When\u00a0Aid Backfires<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many poverty-fighting organizations are seeing large drops in the number of clients, reports True Charity Initiative director Nathan Mayo at The Washington Examiner \u2014 even though unemployment has \u201cvaulted.\u201d So \u201cwhere did these clients go?\u201d Turns out, the government is delivering so many truckloads of perishable food that some nonprofits and churches are \u201cgiving it out with no questions asked.\u201d This \u201cindiscriminate assistance has diverted\u201d many of the poor from \u201cholistic, development-oriented nonprofits\u201d and enticed them \u201cwith help that fails to incorporate any element of challenge.\u201d Yet \u201cmassive food distribution is unnecessary.\u201d And the \u201cnational fervor to \u2018do something\u2019 is undermining the efforts of skillful nonprofits dedicated to the long-term success of impoverished Americans. Those Americans need more than a handout; they need to know someone who cares.\u201d<\/p>\n

Theologian: AOC Smears a Saint<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently claimed that a statue of Saint Damien of Molokai in the US Capitol represents \u201cpatriarchy and white-supremacist culture.\u201d Yet, Chad Pecknold counters at First Things, \u201creality is quite different\u201d from AOC\u2019s \u201cprojections.\u201d Born Jozef De Veuster in 1840 in Belgium, he entered a religious order at age 19 and was dispatched to the Kingdom of Hawaii. There, on the island of Molokai, \u201cwithout the solace of their families, or the church, Hawaiian lepers were essentially exiled.\u201d The future saint went to Molokai \u201cto establish a parish for the lepers\u201d but ended up staying nearly two decades. He built \u201cschools, roads, an orphanage, a hospital, a graveyard\u201d before succumbing to leprosy himself. \u201cThe prime minister of Hawaii called him \u2018a Christian hero.\u2019 The princess of the Kingdom of Hawaii bestowed upon him the highest honors of her people. Hawaiians erected a statue of this \u2018white man\u2019 in front of their state capitol building.\u201d Thus, AOC\u2019s \u201cnarrative, filled with its own curious form of hate, dehumanizes the man who exemplifies what it means to cherish human dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pandemic journal: COVID Hyperbole Syndrome<\/strong><\/p>\n

During previous pandemics, some \u201cvastly more lethal\u201d than COVID-19, \u201clife went on,\u201d Lionel Shriver notes at Spectator USA. Not now, alas \u2014 because elites have \u201coversold\u201d this virus. Many Americans believe the coronavirus has killed \u201calmost 30 million people,\u201d when the actual number is about 162,200. Such \u201cexaggerated impressions of lethality\u201d seem the result of \u201ca stupendously successful propaganda campaign\u201d that tells us to sacrifice friends, family, any \u201ccommunal experience\u201d and the economy as \u201cfearful prophylactic measures.\u201d Most \u201chorrifying\u201d of all, lockdown may well become \u201cofficialdom\u2019s established knee-jerk response to any new contagion.\u201d How can \u201can erstwhile \u2018free people\u2019 \u200a\u201d live like that?<\/p>\n
