Everyone\u2019s eating plants! The vegan trend is supposedly so huge these days, we are in the midst of an identity crisis, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/03\/03\/t-magazine\/meat-beef-vegetarianism-veganism.html\">The New York Times claimed recently<\/a>. \u201cWhen it comes to America\u2019s legacy of Manifest Destiny, there\u2019s perhaps no meal more symbolic than a bleeding steak. So who are we now that we\u2019re consuming less red meat?\u201d the paper of record blathered.<\/p>\n<p>The only problem is that such claims are 100% baloney. Although US consumption of beef fell from about 80 pounds annually per capita in the 1970s and early \u201980s to a low of 54 pounds in 2017, it\u2019s steadily rebounded since then to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/aei.ag\/2021\/04\/05\/u-s-meat-consumption-trends-beef-pork-poultry-pandemic\/\">58.6 pounds in 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, we are eating more beef today than we did five years ago, despite plant-based \u201cImpossible\u201d meat and Beyond Burgers taking over American menus and even McDonald\u2019s.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/daniel-humm-5.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Chef Daniel Humm became revered in global culinary circles for his restaurant, Eleven Madison Park, which switched to a no-meat menu last year. But his other vegan efforts in New York and London proved unpopular.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Annie Wermiel\/NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Clearly, the \u201csave your body, save the animals, save the planet\u201d movement\u00a0has not made a dent in actual eating habits, although some zealots are drinking the eco-friendly Kool-Aid \u2014 i.e., those plunking down $335 (before tip) for a cortege\u00a0of microscopic \u201ccourses\u201d at all-vegan Eleven Madison Park.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s note that, despite reported high demand for reservations at EMP, which has all of 80 seats, the owners of a new skyscraper, 425 Park Avenue, pulled the plug on a planned new restaurant there by EMP chef\/owner Daniel Humm because he insisted on an all-vegan menu. But in restaurants, people\u2019s true tastes are on display for all to see.<\/p>\n<p>Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le steakhouses are thriving and adding locations. Wolfgang\u2019s has grown from a single Manhattan location to five since 2004. In the past five years, Hawksmoor opened up shop here from London, Mastro\u2019s from Beverly Hills, and Salt Bae\u2019s Nusr-Et from Istanbul.<\/p>\n<p>The most in-demand dishes include Carbone\u2019s $85 veal parmigiana (which drew crowds for takeout during the 2020 indoor-dining ban) and Carne Mare\u2019s $115 gorgonzola-cured wagyu s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>loin. Two years ago, the Conde Nast-owned Epicurious site harrumphed that, in the interest of \u201csustainability,\u201d it would no longer carry new beef recipes. An <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epicurious.com\/expert-advice\/why-epicurious-left-beef-behind-article\">editor\u2019s note hinted<\/a> that it expected others to follow. To date, no other comparable media organ has been stupid enough to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The sale of foie gras will be banned altogether in the Big Apple as of Oct. 31.\u00a0The goal is to spare ducks and geese the alleged misery of force-feeding. But the true purpose is to stick it to supposedly rich customers. By the same \u201ccruelty\u201d\u00a0standard, sale of chickens and pork, which people of all income levels consume, should also be forbidden.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Mark Pastore, president of Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors (which sells to places from Porter House to Shake Shack),\u00a0told me his company\u2019s red-meat sales \u201cincrease year after year by anywhere from 10-15 percent.
