On <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>, NASA called it \u201ctruly fascinating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It zipped past our sun in a mere 40 seconds \u2014 far shorter than what we on Earth are used to seeing in an eclipse event involving our moon. That\u2019s because Phobos is about 157 times smaller; meanwhile, its sister satellite, Deimos, is even more minuscule at a scale reduced by 280 times. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-wrapper twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Truly fascinating. With its orbit currently situated just 3,700 miles from its parent \u2014 for comparison, Earth\u2019s moon is 238,900 miles away \u2014 NASA scientists believe the tiny rock has been slowly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/goddard\/phobos-is-falling-apart\">eroded by<\/a> the gravitational tug of its host planet, giving Phobos its signature lumpy shape.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s leaving its mark on Mars, in the meantime.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThese observations can help scientists better understand the moon\u2019s orbit and how its gravity pulls on the Martian surface, ultimately shaping the Red Planet\u2019s crust and mantle,\u201d the space <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/newswire.storyful.com\/storylines\/*\/stories\/271587\">agency told Storyful<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is some of the most detailed imagery we now have of Phobos\u2019 eclipse activity, which NASA began monitoring nearly 20 years ago, beginning with rovers Spirit and Opportunity, and later Curiosity, in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>In early 2021, Perseverance landed on Mars with the ultimate goal of collecting Martian dirt to analyze for ancient microbial life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can see details in the shape of Phobos\u2019 shadow, like ridges and bumps on the moon\u2019s landscape,\u201d said Mark Lemmon, planetary astronomer with the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/jpl\/nasa-s-perseverance-rover-captures-video-of-solar-eclipse-on-mars\">for NASA.gov<\/a>. \u201cYou can also see sunspots.
