Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Local pilot and resident Kathryn Slye told The Post, \u201cThis town board is intentionally excluding the aviation community, ignoring the wishes of 80 percent of their local community and doing whatever they want.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under the new rules, Slye said, take-off and landing fees for small, locally-based aircraft will be bumped up in some cases from $20 to $300, kneec<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing pilots and aviation enthusiasts who can\u2019t afford the hefty increase.<\/p>\n<p> The new regs also are expected to  ban planes that use leaded-fuel, meaning no piston planes will be allowed to land on the tarmac, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer Randy Mastro, who is representing the helicopter shuttle service Blade in its suit against the town, claimed that under state law, East Hampton\u00a0needs to conduct a thorough and public review of the environmental impacts of changing the airport before it goes through with the move. Clark <\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Aircraft companies in the area are already seeing a surge in people wanting to buy their own planes and helicopters to guarantee summer flights, an aviation insider told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be diversions to places that can\u2019t accommodate this kind of volume \u2014 East Hampton Airport is the nexus of the entire aviation infrastructure out there, and it keeps balance,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Russell, the town supervisor of Southold, which includes Mattituck, said he won\u2019t let companies such as Blade divert flights to the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever their solution is, they can work that out \u2014\u00a0as long as that solution doesn\u2019t include the North Folk,\u201d he said of aviators.<\/p>\n<p>Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said, \u201cI just don\u2019t know if [East Hampton\u2019s] will create a new set of problems for different residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt hasn\u2019t been analyzed, it hasn\u2019t been studied,\u201d Schneiderman said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/east-hampton-airport-2.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"East Hampton airport\" class=\"wp-image-22020611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/east-hampton-airport-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/east-hampton-airport-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/east-hampton-airport-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The airport plans to close May 17 and reopen on May 19.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Dennis A. Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>East Hampton is also being sued by the estates of the late builder-to-the-stars Ben Krupinski and his wife Bonnie \u2014 who died in a 2018 plane crash while en route to East Hampton Airport and whose inheritors still have an airplane hangar there.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Suing through an LLC, the estates say closing the airport would breach the terms of a lease they have for airport space that doesn\u2019t expire until 2027. Closure would inflict harm on the company that can not be compensated through monetary damages, the LLC claimed court documents.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Smith of Eastern Region Helicopter Council told The Post, \u201cI believe that diplomacy had a chance\u201d \u2014 but no longer. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThe 2022 season is only weeks away,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>While East Hampton officials have angered local pilots and the ultra-wealthy who will pay $400 for a seat on a helicopter to beat the Long Island Expressway traffic, local residents aren\u2019t too pleased about the airport switchover, either. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a complete sham,\u201d said Barry Raebeck, the director of Coalition to Transform East Hampton Airport, which wants the airport to be converted into public space.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe issue tends to get spun as the rich a\u2013holes against the other rich a\u2013holes. I\u2019m a former school teacher. I\u2019m concerned about climate change,\u201d he said, adding that the people landing at the airport are the ones who live in 30,000-square-foot \u201cclimate monstrosities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people are suffering because we don\u2019t have access to 600 acres of public land that could be used for better things,\u201d Raebeck said. <\/p>\n<p>Instead, residents have an airport \u201cthat most of us don\u2019t use or hate,\u201d he said.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
