And President Joe Biden wants to keep it that way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Case in point: The White House has announced a major move on student debt, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/zackfriedman\/2022\/04\/23\/biden-has-canceled-17-billion-of-student-loans\/?sh=6fef13bb33ef\">canceling it for almost 40,000 borrowers <\/a>and bringing 3.6 million closer to forgiveness.\u00a0Yet student-debt relief mainly benefits the better-off.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yes, like much of the progressive agenda, this is packaged as \u201cequity\u201d \u2014 with a massive contingent of Democratic legislators calling for relief late last month as a way to \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/news\/press-releases\/department-education-releases-equity-action-plan-part-biden-harris-administrations-efforts-advance-racial-equity-and-support-underserved-communities\">advance equity as our nation works to rebuild a stronger and more equitable economy.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But look at the numbers. A January paper from the<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/04\/13\/16-trillion-student-debt-is-monument-destructive-assumptions\/\"> left-leaning Brookings Institution<\/a> showed just how unevenly student debt is distributed, with almost a third of <em>all<\/em> US student debt owed by the wealthiest 20% of households, while the bottom fifth of earners owe less than 10% of such debt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Students with advanced degrees \u2014 doctors, lawyers and the like \u2014 hold 40% of the debt. <\/p>\n<p>And <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagobooth.edu\/review\/canceling-all-us-student-debt-would-mostly-benefit-high-earners\">another recent study shows <\/a>that the universal student-debt forgiveness those  Democrats legislators demand would benefit the top 10% of earners <em>five times<\/em> as much as those at the bottom.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>The student loan freeze that has been in place since the start of the pandemic has already saved these mostly well-off borrowers $195 billion in loan payments, even as economic life has gotten harder for those lower down the economic ladder. Unemployment for the college-educated, meanwhile, is under 2%. <\/p>\n<p>That forgiving student loans is a handout to the well-off can be no surprise to anyone with more than a passing knowledge of life in this country: The vast majority of American adults <em>don\u2019t <\/em>have college degrees, and those who do tend to earn more.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So why the push for forgiveness? Well, a big chunk of those debt-burdened, well-educated voters are Democrats who live in suburban areas where the party is trying to shore up votes. Forgiveness would also <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eal to younger voters, among whom Biden\u2019s support has collapsed. <\/p>\n<p>This is the exact opposite of equity: a wealth transfer to the already affluent to bribe key Democratic constituencies, and both insult and injury to the less well-off.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
