called\u00a0HartBeat, with a $100 million investment from private equity firm Abry Partners.<\/p>\n<p>Abry, which focuses on investments in the media, communication and information services space, took a minority stake in the company at an undisclosed valuation.<\/p>\n<p>Hart, known for his roles in films such as \u201cRide Along\u201d and \u201cCentral Intelligence,\u201d will be the chairman of the new venture created out of the merger of\u00a0Hart\u2019s entertainment businesses Laugh Out Loud and\u00a0HartBeat Productions.<\/p>\n<p>Thai Randolph, who has held senior executive positions at both the businesses, will be the chief executive officer of\u00a0HartBeat, the company said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It added that Nicolas Massard, a partner at Abry, would join the company\u2019s board and NBCUniversal\u2019s streaming service Peacock would remain a shareholder.<\/p>\n<p>HartBeat said it would produce and distribute television and film content focused on \u201ccomedic storytelling\u201d recent months, betting on strong demand for content.<\/p>\n<p>In January, private equity fund Apollo\u00a0said it would invest $760 million in Legendary Entertainment, the production and finance company behind films including \u201cDune\u201d and \u201cGodzilla vs. Kong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, streaming giant Netflix last week reported it had lost subscribers for the first time in 10 years
