If successful it will then be delivered to Governor Kathy Hochul who can veto the bill or sign it into law.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-04\/892fa4b4-99e5-4edb-8640-bfeee7187721.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\">Current status of Bill A7389C as of April 27. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2021\/a7389\/amendment\/c\">Source<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) would be tasked by the bill with preparing a \u201cgeneric environmental impact statement\u201d to number, locate and asses the energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of PoW miners and their impact on the public health.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>US lawmakers sound alarm to EPA over environment concerns of crypto mining<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cryptocurrency industry advocacy group the Blockchain Association had previously called on \u201cpro-tech, pro-innovation, pro-crypto\u201d residents of New York to mount an opposition to the bill, which they <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BlockchainAssn\/status\/1519116350752538630\">claim<\/a> resulted in thousands of messages to legislators.<\/p>\n<p>The association <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BlockchainAssn\/status\/1519116349708161026\">said<\/a> that around three hours of debate took place over the bill, demonstrating what they believe is a \u201cgreater opposition to the mining ban than proponents believed.\u201d In a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BlockchainAssn\/status\/1519116349708161026\">tweet<\/a> today the team said it will direct its energy to the New York Senate to defeat what it calls the \u201canti-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> bill\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Proposed bans on proof-of-work cryptocurrencies on environmental grounds are becoming more common.
